1975 International 4300 Transtar

Here’s one I started several years ago painted twice and decaled still didn’t like the way it turned out so I put it away till last summer ordered some different decals and started chipping away at it. I’ve done some work on it this week I’ll be adding the cab decals once the cab is finished and it gets mounted to the frame to ensure they line up correctly.

Lookin good so far , Lee. Thise Ertl kits always built up to a real nice replica, and their fit and finish was always really nice. I recall building this kit way back when it was first issued and even as a young kid it turned out well.  I really like your color choice as it is spot on period correct, and looks near perfect.  This is going to look exactly as it should. I’m looking forward to your next update.

Yes they do Jeff. I need a break from the AMT kits for now I like all of them but at the end of a hard day at work sometimes I can’t tolerate a fiddle kit. I had this original one like you in my younger years I built it up at Bills house in Kansas City one summer I was around 17 years old drove up there in a old International pick I had 😂 I’ll never forget it too bad I did keep it.

As I recall this is a very nice kit, such a shame ERTL disappeared, they did some great stuff. I like your colour choice and those decals look brilliant. Be good to see what you do with this Lee.

Steve it is but most Ertl kits are still alive with AMT. I like how they are now all white plastic except the Paystar Dump Truck but at least the Cab/Hood fenders are white. The decals are great no fuss with them and no transparency coming through the white strip. I highly recommend them. Thanks for the compliment and stopping by.

Last night I hand painted the tank straps and built and painted Engine. Worked on it a little this morning more updates later.

Good choice on build, they are great kits. Nice decal choice.  Factory style decals, several different schemes, IMO, are a must for the 4200-4300 kits. I use factory photos for inspiration, not less than thrilling AMT-Ertl box art. White steel Budds on rear drives would be a period correct look.

I agree with Brian and Tommy, also I love the engine color. The color makes the details really come out and the engine as is looks very ‘busy’ which will look great when you pop the hood. This is a beauty

Yes I have lots of pics of 4300 and 4200 and several old brochures, including with that pic that you posted.  I referenced to them all the time for ideas. I’m going with some old cultivator wheels/ Chicago wobblers on the rear of this truck. I finally got them painted the way I wanted yesterday they were giving me a fit the last couple days. Thanks for stopping by and the compliment.

Install the Engine with the decals added next is painting the fan and radiator. I left them off for now because our good Friend Jeff (Biggu) likes these kinda pics so these are for you Jeff. Hope you enjoy them.

Mine is still in the box on the shelf next to it's brother the 4270 ,lot's of possibilities with these ,, good to see it resurrected Lee ! (it needs a Detroit though,,,,lol 😛 )

Thanks for those Lee. Yeah, I can’t argue, those pics ( to me anyway ) really makes the truck look clean and well set up. When it comes to the two Corn Binders I have in the stash , these will be an excellent reference. I’m not sure that exact color is available here locally, I am wondering if something like Pontiac engine blue would work. The metallic blue not the dark blue 🤔🤔.  
I’m really liking this build, Lee.  When done it will be period correct and look the part as well. Looking forward to the next update.

You’re welcome Jeff here a pic that was on here at one time if you haven’t seen it. Mine is not exact but I seen one near the color I used in an International Transtar 4070 B. That’s where I got the idea for my color

Well calling it a night here are the wheels I’ll be using now I have a rolling chassis. I also got the mudflaps on painted the Taillights. Probably going have to give them a clear coat to get rid of that decal silvering look.

I do like the look of those wheels. They were worth the effort.
