nascarfan Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Went into the hobby shop earlier in the week and there was a few AMT kits, 5 to be exact and the rest were Revell kits.

RodBurNeR Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 I would guess that if they had more, they sold...they are kinda slim right now here too, but AMT is still at it thankfully! There are more releases and reissues coming out later this year from what I hear.
nascarfan Posted June 5, 2009 Author Posted June 5, 2009 if you have been out of the loop for awhile or not paying attention you wouldn't know that AMT stopped producing model kits awhile back. Round2 has come along and made an agreement to have exclusive rights to the molds and lease them for a period of time. AMT was gone and now it's back, but in a very limited capacity. Dave Thanks Dave that explains it very well!! I have been out of the loop for sure!!
Nick Winter Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 My hobby shops kit supply is 99% AMt and 1% monogram, revell, and the others I can't remember at this time.
Fletch Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 We have 2 major hobby shops in the Portland Metro area and the numbers are about the same at both. 50% Revell, 25% Tamiya, Fujimi, Hasagawa, 10% Lindberg and 15% AMT. It's hard to justify the shelf space when the customers aren't buying the product. The damage the RC2 did with determining which kits to release and no product development did nothing to bring AMT back into the prominence it once had. Hopefully Round2 can correct the years of seeming lack of interest by RC2's management and turn the company back around.

It's nice to see AMT back in the hands of people who give a ###### about our hobby! Hopefully gone are the days of endless reissues of the same fifty kits and new tools that weren't worth the expense to produce! I've noticed this too- a few of the shops I frequent no longer even carry AMT stuff- at least not currently. My most "local" LHS has been getting quite a few Revell kits in, but just recently with the Round 2 stuff (that's where I JUST got the Class Action Monte Carlo). One shop owner was planning to discontinue stocking RC2 kits because of the lack of quality. Even he is coming around. I myself stopped buying AMT kits for a couple of years- only recently have I rejoined the dark side! And many of my modeling buddies are checking out AMT again.
