2008 Mustang 'Bullitt' in-prog

Hey All,

This will be my second go around with the Revell series of 2005-2008 Mustang kits, this time using the 'Bullitt' edition;

The motor has been finished in various shades of Testors Metalizer and non Metalizer shades (plus semi-gloss black for the oil pan and pulleys).

And now the start of the chassis. The chassis was painted primer gray first, and the body color misted from the sides to simulate the over-spray from the painting process;

The engine, radiator, and exhaust system has been added to the chassis pan and the detail painting completed. All painting was done with Model Master enamels (except for the exhaust heat effects, those were done with Tamiya clears);

One item I am deviating from in regards to a stock build is the addition of the quarter window louvers. The real '08 Bullitt doesn't have them, though the 1968 Mustang used in the movie did. The louvers came from a 1966 Mustang kit and required some modification in order to fit the '08 body (mainly shortened via sanding stick, and then styrene strip added to shim any gaps),

And here's where we are at this point, modification of the suspension to lower her to a more acceptable stance. Here's how the mods were done. First the rear suspension. A simple operation compared to the front suspension modifications;

Not pictured are the rear shocks. They need to be shortened a bit as well. Now the front end mods. As you can see it is a bit more involved. The chassis pan and inner fender mods;

And how she sits now. BTW, these are not the wheels that are going on this build, I'm just using these for mock-up purposes.

The chassis is completed (minus the wheels of course). Aside from some minor tweaking in regards to the sway bars and rear shocks (which was a result of the suspension modifications), everything fit perfectly.

Next up will be the interior. Instead of the all black interior as found in the 1/1 Bullitt, I'm going to use tan as an accent color like in the photo below;

If we ever get some decent weather I can get to the body right away as well. I did fill the holes in for the spoiler today but I'd like to prime the body and get it ready for the color coats (if hasn't been raining then it's been too chilly to paint over the last couple of weeks).

Small update today. I wanted to see how the color I'm using is going to look so I painted the fire wall and strut towers with Dupli-Color Medium Metallic Green (decanted into a jar and then airbrushed). I sprayed two fire walls, one with a black primer and one with gray primer to see which would look the best. The gray primer looks to be close;

It's still a bit compared to the photos I've seen but it'll suffice.

That is some very impressive work there! Great detailing, and your photos/callouts/captions are terrific... a very well-done online tutorial.

Keep up the great work... I'm sure a lot of people can benefit from what you're doing and showing.

Hi Gang,

New update for today but first thank you all for your positive comments so far. This is the second build log that I've posted so the encouragement is greatly appreciated.

The interior is pretty much completed. I used Tamiya Deck Tan (TS-68) for the tan color on the seats, door panels, console, and lower dashboard. Model Master Black Chrome was used for the seats, panel inserts, and upper dashboard. Aluminum Metalizer was used for dashboard panel.

After the dashboard was painted, I used small dots of white to represent the text on the buttons and dials. I cut a photoetched CD in half and stuck in the CD slot. Last touch was using a sewing needle ball top for the shifter ball;

The Detailer was used to bring some of the dashboard detail to life.

Next update should be the body (though it'll be a couple of weeks before I get to it- going out of town for vacation next week)

Man that's comin out nice! I agree with Harry,this is a GREAT on-line tutorial! So far so good.Is the gas tank purple? or some shade of it? It should be a semi-gloss/flat black, as they're made of a super dense rubber/plastic compound, so they'll flex instead of crunch in an impact. But that bad boy is lookin GOOD, it'll be a REAL NICE build when your done! :D;)

Thanks for the kudos! The tank is semi-gloss black, the color balance was thrown off by the window blinds being open in my hobby room when I took the pictures (it's reflecting the light outside). Thanks again, I appreciate the compliments!

Thanks on the info in regards to the fuel tank. I took some under side photos of an '10 Mustang at the local dealer (one of the salesmen looked rather befuddled as to what I was doing) and the tank was black on that one (or at least the shield/cover was :D) . Ford did do a good job in making the new Bullitt nondescript that's for sure.

Some updated photos of the interior. I wasn't happy with just a black painted floor so out came the Ken's Fuzzi Fur black and gray flocking. This is the second time I've used it and just love the look of it;

Holy cow, it's been a while since I updated this thread! Anyhoo, after a few busy weeks of family time because of a vacation and the madness around the 4th of July (big tourist draw here in the North), I was able to get some work done this past weekend. The rims were stripped of their chrome via Liquid Plumber and repainted Model Master Titanium Metalizer (unbuffed). After the Titanium dried, I sprayed a few coats of Future for a gloss coat to seal the finish and give the rims a nice shine. Silver paint from the square jar was applied to the outer edge and also the dust cap and lug nuts. Mustang logos from the kit decal sheet were applied the dust caps, thus finishing the rims. The tires are from AMT's Toyota Supra kit, as suggested by Davezinn;

As a final touch for the interior, two CDs cases were made and laid on the passenger seat. Bonus point to who can identify which CDs these are; :lol:

You have combined two of my favorite things in life. Mustangs and Metallica. First car was a Mustang, first concert was Metallica. So far everything looks excellent.

Finally! I have a painted body. Actually this is the second time I've painted this body. The first go around didn't go so great and the color was fifty shades too dark. So into the CSC tank it went. After the paint was stripped, I redid the trunk bodywork (redrilled the holes out and filled them in with styrene rod) and applied several coats of Dupli-Color primer/sealer. The body was wet sanded to smooth the primer, rinsed, and set aside to dry. Next came nine coats of Model Master British Green Metallic. I know this isn't quite correct but it's what I had on hand so it'll have to do.

Now she'll sit for 10 days to let the paint cure completely. After that I'll buff out the paint and add a few clear coat to make the paint really sparkle. Thanks as always for looking.

This thread is continuing proof that this forum and builders like you are an asset to this hobby. I have resently managed to pry two young lads away from the video game console. I was just finishing Revell's new 68 mustang,when it caught both of their attention. One of the boys got his Dad to buy him a 07 Revell mustang this past week and just yesterday my son says while we are at Hobby lobby that he wants to build a new mustang also. He is 15 and builds once in a great while so I jumped at the chance to hook him back in. This moring I find this thread and all I can say is WOW! This is perfect to get these two boys started. Outstanding step by step progress, and hopfully I can get a couple of young builders pointed in the right direction. Again, Albert thanks for sharing your build it is outstanding! Now I am off to find that 07 mustang I got for Christmas and join these two boys. And on a side note I was building at the kitchen table that night instead of in the hobby room---- note to self invite more people into the hobby room....mmmm more space, more chairs. I got it!!! tell the wife I need to build a BIGGER hobby romm!!!! :D
