dwc43 Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 http://public.fotki.com/Tank33/model_shows...town-murfreesb/ These 3 are mine. The M*A*S*H chopper took a third place. The blue one is a 40 Ford asphalt car '50's era and my '41 Willy's coupe. http://public.fotki.com/Tank33/model_shows...b/dsc04262.html http://public.fotki.com/Tank33/model_shows...b/dsc04268.html http://public.fotki.com/Tank33/model_shows...b/dsc04269.html
dwc43 Posted June 22, 2009 Author Posted June 22, 2009 (edited) This pile won Street Automotive. Check out the Enzo in the back. IT should have won. http://public.fotki.com/Tank33/model_shows...b/dsc04282.html And this most inaccurate pile won competition automotive. http://public.fotki.com/Tank33/model_shows...b/dsc04264.html This should have been 1,2,and 3 http://public.fotki.com/Tank33/model_shows...b/dsc04270.html http://public.fotki.com/Tank33/model_shows...b/dsc04266.html http://public.fotki.com/Tank33/model_shows...b/dsc04272.html Actually the orange IMCA open wheel mod did place 3rd. roadhawg Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 That modified IS pretty cool. I think your '40 should've placed. Does that '61 have a cracked windshield, or is it just the way the light is hitting it?
dwc43 Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 (edited) No, it has a busted windshield in it. Looks like it has a round spot in it and the cracks work out from the center. Not sure why it was made that way. I can't tell in that pic, but I think that's the one that had a coat hanger for a car antenna made on it too. Edited June 23, 2009 by dwc43
dwc43 Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 First off, I did not think any of mine would win, even in this small show. IT was all set up at the last minute cause they could not find a space to do it in and the store is so small. Someone let them use an empty suite two doors down from the store. Anyways, I think we all got taken. Some of them are in a club and I think they judged towards the club members first. I ran into the same thing in a real car show several years ago. If you had over 5 mods to your car you could not enter in the stock class. This guy had way over 5 mods and the engine was not even available in that year car. They let him stay in my class cause he was a member of the club. AND, he took 2nd I believe and bumped me from a 3rd place trophy that year. Last time I showed my car at that show. I think you should judge on the merits of the cars, or models and not whether you are a club member or not.
VW Dave Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Nice pics, and thanks for sharing; I really like your Willys coupe. That clean bubbletop looks very peculiar with a cracked windshield....I wonder what's the story behind that one. I think you should judge on the merits of the cars, or models and not whether you are a club member or not. I would suggest that you volunteer to judge the next show if you believe you can help sustain a sense of fair play, but as a judge you would be ineligible as far as awards go. Probably not a feasible idea.....I'm not sure that someone who calls another builder's work an "inaccurate pile" can be truly unbiased.

Probably not a feasible idea.....I'm not sure that someone who calls another builder's work an "inaccurate pile" can be truly unbiased. That's not a bad idea. I have judged several different classes in real car shows before. Even had to break some very close ties too. I don't that happens a lot though. And when I judged in a class that I had a car in, I would have to step back and take no part in it. That's how the real car shows do it around here. I'd even step back if my brother had a car in the show, even though I did not have to. I just thought it was fair. I guess I came down on the race car cause they gave it all three awards. 1st for the class, best of show, and what ever the HT trophy was. You can't tell a lot from the pic, but it's not period or even race car correct. Short tracks wont allow scoops or cowl inductions like that. It has a 2000 something chassis and cage pieced in it. Other than a good paint and decal job, it just aint much compared to others in that class. Even the two Fords have tires too big. but they are more accurate for the era and what would be allowed by rules. Even my 40 Ford is spot on, but the paint is not as nice as others, but I did it that way for realism. There's just other cars that should have placed over that car in my opinion. I looked at that Impala again, it even has missing trim on the LF fender. Did not notice that before. And thanks for the comment on the Willy's. I showed that last year and won, but I decided to show it again cause I did some updates that can't hardly be seen in the pic. I added the driver with the correct uniform and helmet with air cleaners on it. Added the chute lines and other small details that I did not have finished the first time it showed. It gtets to rest on my shelve now. I did that car from the movie "Hot Rod"
