I want to attempt to do something that I have never done before. I'm going to have a couple bodies left over after some kit bashing for another project. I've got an idea that I want to try on the left over bodies I have. So, how can I make a 4dr out of a 2dr ?? It's a B body 1/25 MPC "70 Super Bee. I want to make it a 4 dr. and use it as a police car. So, can you give a guy some ideas on how he might do that. The easier the better of course. lol.

First, (and this is a given) get yourself a bunch of pics of the 4 dr you want to do. Bodywork varies especially in the rear quarters (not only because it's a 2 dr)........and you'll most likely have to scratch the rear roof section on your own as the two do NOT share rooflines in the least.

IIRC, you'll have to scratch center posts as I don't think there were any Coronet 4 dr hardtops for 1970. Your front doors are going to be shorter naturally than the 2 dr coupes, so you'll have to make your measurements accordingly.

If you haven't done this type of mod before, it might be a good idea to practice scribing door lines on a junk body.............it's not hard, just takes some practice to make it look right.

:o I didn't think of Don from The Modelhaus------I didn't know he offered it!

Yes, that WOULD make things a ton easier! You'll get a whistle clean body with virtually no cleanup!

If you email or call Don or Carol, they can sell you parts separately that might not be shown on their website or catalog.

OR......................you may still want to go the scratchbuilt route--------------possibly a full detail model with opening doors and all? ;)

You have no idea how much work is involved in turning a 2-door into a 4-door. It's not only filling in the existing door lines and scribing new ones, but like Bill mentioned, the bodywork is often very different between a coupe and the sedan version... and that's not even considering that you'd have to scratch build an entirely new interior, with different door panels front and rear, relocated armrests, window cranks and door handles for the rear doors, etc. A big scratchbuilding job... not impossible, but definitely not a quick, simple job.

If a 4-door body is already available, buy it!

Thanks guys. I saved those links and I'll look into it. I just knew I'd have these bodies left over once I get the other project done and thought I could put them to use. Might just trade or sell them instead. That resin stuff sure is pricey though. Wished the model companies would do some 4 dr.s for cop cars. In the day the majority of cop cars state wide were Mopars, cause they were so tough, could take the abuse and really hard to outrun the 383 and 440 cars. I'm sure they would make a killing if they made some of these kits. I know I'd buy them up.
