Corvette.Jeff Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I always enjoy asking this question. Music basically saved my life, to me its up there with my parents and the big guy in the sky So who here plays an instrument?Even more than one is really cool! Me,I play Drums,Chorus Guitar,a A little solo electric,Acoustic Guitar,Bass guitar, and I've been getting more into screaming(not like yelling.lol) Kinda like Oli Sykes (i can only find the censored version on youtube) I know what some of the younger members on here are thinking, oh great ANOTHER bring me the horizon fan, whoopty doo. I like the way he screams, he can go from a pig squeal to a growl like its nothing, i wish i had his vocal cords anyways before i get totally carried away talking about music, anyone here play an instrument?
B_rad88 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 well, i used to play clarinet. and now i play a little drums, electric and acoustic guitar! but my main thing is bass guitar! and love to play guitar hero! lol!
Harry P. Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I've been playing the radio since I was a little kid. I can also play records and CDs.
FujimiLover Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I used to take piano lessons a while ago. I enjoy creating music on the computer, but haven't been into it for a while. Most of us, our instruments are plastic, glue, paint, brushes, hobby knives, et'c. Our symphony is the kit we put together. Our masterpiece, well, that's up to you what you consider your master piece to be! I put all my music on my Ipod, plugged into my stereo system, and crank it up!
LUKE'57 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I played trombone for six years in the high school band and now play guitar (Flatt style rythm and Scruggs style lead) and stand up (aucustic) bass with a friend that was playing cornet in that same high school band over forty years ago.

Folsom Prison Blues Hello, I'm Johnny Cash I here the train a comin' it's rollin' 'round the bend and I ain't seen the sunshine since I don't know when I'm stuck in Folsom Prison and time keeps draggin' on but that train keeps a rollin' on down the San Antone when I was just a baby my mama told me son, always be a good boy don't ever play with guns but I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die and when I hear that whistle blowin' I hang my head and cry guitar solo I bet there rich folks eatin' in a fancy dinin' car. They're probably drinkin' coffee, and smokin' big cigars well, I know I had it comin' I know I can't be free but those people keep a movin' and that's what tortrues me guitar solo Well if they freed me from this prison, if that railroad train was mine I bet i'd move it on a lttle farther down the line far from Folsom Prison that's where I want to stay and I'd let that lownesome whistle blow my blues away.
old low&slo Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I played the drums from 13 years old to like 40 years old. man I miss them bad !!!! love to have another set !!!
Roadkill2525 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Played purcussion and trumpet in middle school, now I play a small block Chevy.
Ryan Quantz Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Currently I play the Tenor Sax and the Harmonica. Back in highschool Jazz band, I played the flute, clarinet, Tenor and Sporano sax as 1st chair Tenor. We did very well at the 2001 and 2002 Reno Jazz Festival. I can play a mean drum set if I drink enough Bourbon, I'd love to learn play the guitar and piano. I also sing. But it rarely is heard by anyone besides my closest friends. They say I am the next James Taylor. Yeah, I'm okay, but I need some work. I can make it low like Cash, and hit the high notes like Chris Isaak. Music is so very important to me.
Gregg Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I play Black Jack. Does that count? I know there are some great musicians here. The highlight of one of trips I took was when I was walking, very half-cocked, down the street in Puerto Rico, and lo-an-behold, someone yelled my name. I'm 6,000 miles away from home... WTH. I looked up, kinda, and there is my good friend Simon Rivera Torres, standing outside of a club that was blasting music. He brought me inside, next to the stage and for what seemed like hours, I stood there mesmerized while his band blasted away some incredible jazz tunes, Simon on the Trumpet, me in a daze, it was truly amazing!!!!! Truly, one of the highlights of my blessed life/passion with model cars. Larry Greenberg is also an incredibly talented musician. If I can only convince him to convert to a Mac, he can make his music so much more easily, without all the crashes and blue screens of death..... Dean Milano, he blows me away!!!!! This guy is incredible!!!! Check out his links and videos. An incredible collection I saw was when Jairus and I stayed at Gary Schmidt's house (yes, a life-changing moment for me). Gary has an incredible collection of guitars that would make a grown man cry! Rich Robertson, our local club member, can play any instrument any where, any time. Truly gifted. Me, I play with models, or toys, as some ex's call them. Played sax in high school, till I found out it was supposed to be sex I was supposed to be learning about.... three years wasted, oh well....... I'll stick to my Bose headphones and ITunes. Hawaiian Music, of course Kelly and I go to as many live music events we can. Took her to Biscuit and Blues in San Fran after the NNL West, was a blast! Ray Piaza freaked out when he found out what I do. He is a total car freak. Such is our hobby, so inter-twined. Now, time to put some Iz on, and finish a couple of issues.....
diymirage Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 i play drums on my churches worship team and i am sleeping with the lead singer (dont worry, we've been married for over 5 years now)
fury3 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 After reading all of the replies so far, I suppose I'm really "out of it". I'm a pianist...as a hobby. But after reading the music being discussed here, my music is about as popular and appreciated as a piece of s%#! in the punch bowl. George Gershwin, Serge Prokofieff, Scott Joplin, Shostakovitch, etc. I'll bet most of the younger members have never heard of these people, and don't care if they ever do, LOL! I know....snooze...... Fury3
cnaind Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I've been playing trumpet & cornet for 40+ years..........................doesn't mean I'm any good, just old!!!!

LoneWolf15 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Twenty years of playing professionally (guitar ) and singing lead vocals went by the way side because of the shift work. I still miss it after 14 years ! Two weeks ago , we finished up the girls softball championships and had a party afterwards at the complex. Two of the youngsters showed up with guitars and started to play with about 60 people there. After listening for awhile , I walked over and asked Austin , my daughters friend , if he minded if I sat in. He handed me the guitar , smirked and said " Show me what you got " , " Old Man " I sat down and immediately went into Buffalo Springfield 's For What it's Worth. The look on that boy's face when I finished was priceless! Everybody was chearing and singing along , especially the youngsters , during the song. Just goes to show that music and it's songs are timeless ! These days it's limited to kareoke which I enjoy immensely. I sure do miss playing out though! Donn Yost Lonewolf Custom Painting
Dragline Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I've been playing guitar [mostly electric] for 26 years now. I made a living from it [moonlighting after all day at the garage], for almost 15 of those.. I am currently seeking a band but it has to be a good fit. I play mostly Heavy stuff. I play in the style of Malmsteen/VanHalen et all.... Mostly shred type Metal. Here are a couple of pieces of gear. New Krank head and marshall cab. My trusty 85 Gibson Explorer I bought new many moons ago. It makes a racket so I bought a little Peavy VYPYR practice amp a while back. Bob F
Harold Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 I play guitar. I have an Epiphone Les Paul and a mini Marshall stack. The last few months I started studying a bit of music theory and a bunch of different scales and modes and my improvising has improved as a result. Mostly though, I just like to crank it up and bust loose.
RodBurNeR Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 (edited) To go off what Gregg said about modelers who play music... Steve Boutte is in a band and plays well, you can find some video on youtube and I am not sure but think they have a CD. Tom Cowles came over a couple times and played around on mine and his guitars. Chuck Hand came down from South Dakota and played on my daughter's junior. (she builds models) He has several guitars at his house. Our friend Lennis does not build models, but he comes over once in awhile and he can play really well. I have put him on youtube. I really shouldn't be surprised about how many modelers play an instrument and at the least a guitar. Playing is good for the soul and is good therapy for your hands too! Here is my tube channel, you can watch Tom Cowles and Lennis play. I will get some of my own up eventually. By the way, there are several guitar players on my forum too. http://www.youtube.com/user/awbcrazy#play/uploads Edited July 10, 2009 by awbcrazy

The last few months I started studying a bit of music theory and a bunch of different scales and modes and my improvising has improved as a result. Mostly though, I just like to crank it up and bust loose. That's what i was doing with the 1/2 stack and got some complaints [go figure]. I sometimes get the urge to just crank over some of the backing tracks I've collected over the years and the 1/2 stack is just too much. That's when I bought the Peavy VYPYR. 30 watts, 12" speaker with TONS of onboard digital modeling. I sounds pretty good for the 200.00 shipped I paid. i was kind of surprised, in a good way. I live in a row house in Baltimore City so it can be problematic. I don't seem to play much these days for some reason. I really need to be in a band for the creativity to come out. Sitting in the house jamming to Steve Vai records is fun, for a while.... Then it gets old and I long to stretch out. Can't do that in a row house all the time. But I still manage to crank [KranK?] the 1/2 stack now and again. Between that and getting onstage to jam a tune with my buddies band now and again seems to keep me fairly happy. Sometimes i think the glory days are behind me... I may be right. Bob F
Rob Hall Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 (edited) I played the fluteiphone in elementary school music class. Does that count? Seriously, though, I'd like to take the time to learn guitar. My sister is the musical one in my family, she used to sing in a Fleetwood Mac tribute band w/ ex-husband #2--who taught her to play the guitar---and now has a Fender Telecaster and a Gibson Explorer and a Marshall stack. Bob F That looks a little like my dads setup(he plays heavy metal from the 70's and 80's) Except his stack is a crate, and he plays a ibanez. I cant even name all the stuff that goes with his guitar, i know when he has his stack turned halfway to 11 its louder than the sound system in my car! which is over 700 watts! I mostly know about drums, i have an older taye setup that i've extensively tuned to my liking You cant go wrong with a double bass pedal either we used to have a whole room in our old house devoted to music stuff, me and my dad would go in and jam about once a week, Now that were in this smaller house we moved it all upstairs with me, it takes up over half of the upstairs and we still couldnt fit everything in!! I was really suprised to see how many people here play an instrument! the wide variety of the instruments played as well! I guess no one got the beans joke

Guitar is pretty easy to play, if a drummer can learn how to play i think anyone can learn how to play! I've been playing guitar for a few years now(off an on, my realy passion is my drum set) and Iv'e managed to piece together a couple of little songs(mostly to impress the ladies )
