FujimiLover Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Hello there. I generally hate the color yellow for cars. Except, there is something about the yellow on Ferrari's and only works on Ferrari's! I've tried painting yellow years ago and never had luck with the color. It always get's thick and clog's up, get's spotty, ugly finishes. I wish in the future, when I build Ferrari's, possibly my KS Competition Spyder, is to paint it yellow. I'm wondering what's the easiest and best yellow to paint with? And what's the best match for Ferrari without getting the actual Ferrari Yellow which will probably cost an arm, a leg, and everything else? My Dad and I were at the local John Deer service center to get some parts to fix our tractor. I was looking at their "industrial paint" section and saw they had some yellows as we all know John Deer is green with yellow trim. Would those paints work on plastic models? I think that John Deer yellow might look good on a Ferrari, what do you all think? Would like some help please, thanks!
B_rad88 Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 hey marc, wuz up? i too hate the color yellow, but ferraris always makes it look good! and i have had problems with painting yellow too! but i am giving it another try! i just bought a tamiya ferrari 360 modena yellow version! even the instructions are printed on yellow paper!!!! i will work on this one after i get a p/e set for it, and a couple of other things for it!!!!
FujimiLover Posted July 11, 2009 Author Posted July 11, 2009 I collect Kyosho's 1/28 scale Mini-Z bodies. I hated yellow up till I saw it on their Ferrari's. I also love the pearl yellow found on the Lamborghini Murcielago. So, I'd like to try yellow again, but not sure how to get smooth finishes. I look forward to seeing your yellow Modena done! Modenas are my favorite Ferraris of all! Ferrari Modena's, and Lamborghini Murcielagos for me! Yea baby, yea! Sorry, a little Austin Powers in me, LOL!
PlasticWagens Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Yellow is my favorite color, however I tend to like red 1:1 cars the best. To me if it is a Ferrari it has to be red or it is just another car. A friend of mine in Miami imports and exports cars from and to all over the world. He once asked me "you know the difference between a Red Ferrari and all other colors of Ferrari's?" About $50K!
ffreak Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Well i'm a bit different in that I love any color Ferrari !! I have painted several different Ferrari models in the correct " Fly Yellow " purchased from MCW. I must say it is my favorite yellow so far. In the bright sunshine outside it is just stunning. So that might be an option for you to try. My 2 cenths worth.
