I was wondering if anyone has found a good fool proof way of finding true center of round objects. I'm sure that someone has a very simple solution and that is why I came here.

I had asked the same question a little while ago and here's a link to what I got ... centering

I did end up buying a center finder from Micro Mark but it is unsuitable for the sizes of rounds we use. I'm still looking for a way. B)

I have one I use peridically, that's a several piece combination set. There's a 12" straight edge, a large and small square, and a V-shape piece that the rule slides through the center, for finding the center of round objects. It's a machinist tool.

Assemble the two pieces, put your round piece in - scribe, rotate 90 degree's and scribe again to form an "X" and a "Center".

Very simple, but may be confusing without a pic.

You can buy a cheap set at HARBOUR FREIGHT for under $10.00 and they work good.

I'll post a pic a little later, if someone doesn't do it in the meantime.

Here's the tool Dave's talking about .. 12" Combination Square Set

This is similar to the tool I bought and uses the same principle to locate a center. Steel Center Finder The problem I have with this tool is the slot it has at the base. This makes it difficult to accurately use on rounds with diameters under about 1/8" .. pretty much all the sizes I need it for. It looks like the Harbor Freight tool has a similar slot .. maybe the one Dave uses doesn't ..??

Maybe I just ask too much, but I don't use many solid rounds above 1'8".
