wgflatliner
your truck is looking good. i just got mine masked and going to start the first coats of silver. as i stated about the weather.. yesterday was -21 outside. this morning -14. it's still cold out, but not AS cold. so i think it's time for me to start laying down some coats of paint. sadly the color scheme is somewhat similar to the other truck posted, so i'll see what i can do to mix it up. OH and i'll be working on the interior too. i just need to get some silver paint laid down and the rest should fall into place. pics coming soon! wgflatliner
Thanx....yours should be bitchin' hehe, thanks! that's what i'm hoping for. going for four mist coats, then a final wet coat. only need two more mist coats of the silver, then i'll do the wet, then after a week or so, that should be enough time for it to cure so i can mask off the silver and start the process again with the orange. Since i plan on doing this next week, that would be right before i go on vacation. i should pick up a white paint pen so i can make a nice pinstripe at the dividing line when i get back home. how hard is it to have a smooth look with the transition from one color to the other? (i usually have a hard time with there being like a bump or ridge between the two colors) any tips? if i'm going about this the wrong way with the process of painting two-tone, please let me know. thanks! p.s. Hey Nick: i noticed that you don't have my 55 in the lineup on the entries.. mine's the 55 cameo. I spray a thin coat of clear after my base and when I do my tape off I mist more clear on the edge... sprayed off tape. the second color is also sprayed off tape...if you blend your color to the edge there should be no ridge...if needed a quick rub with a 8000 pad and then 3 or 4 coats of clear should come out smooth "off tape" means sprayed off the taped edge rather than sprayed into the taped edge!! I use a dehydrator it saves that week!!! Edited December 10, 2009 by MikeMc
wgflatliner
while i'm waiting for the silver to cure, i started working on the interior. modernization baby!!! It's not 100% perfect to my tastes yet, and i do have some paint touch-up i need to do with the seats, but this is a general idea. I installed a floor e-brake and updated sequential shifter to modernize the interior. if i had better photo etched interior window cranks i'd be much happier but i can't have it all i guess. not yet anyways. i also got some photo etched sparco seatbelts, which is why i put the bars between the two seats and on the edges, and the back since they are going to be 4-point harnesses. i'm still up in the air if i want to fab up the roll cage to have a full cage or just the lower half of the interior.. i do want it to maintain the street look, so i may not go with the full cage. let me know what ya think! oh - btw - the firewall is going to be the orange color. i didn't glue in the seats so i'll be able to mask off the interior (already got a template!) and also mask the outer part of the interior bucket then start the orange paint. MikeMc
Great look ...but unless you are moving the steering column and wheel I think your gonna have an issue with the fire bottle location and I assume the door would "open/close" in 1:1..... I think that might set that sucker off!!!!
wgflatliner
i relocated the fire extinguisher to a better location and got the seatbelts installed. i glued in the seats, but i'll still be able to avoid getting paint on them when i get to the firewall. s10kid18
Looks pretty cool, so do you think it's done or? if it is I'll start a UnderGlass for this build. No its not done yet Ill be finishing it up next week I think
wgflatliner
alright, update time. i gave the silver a full week to cure, and i'm glad i did. this is probably one of the best two-tones i've done! the orange did bleed a little on the back of the cab and i need to figure out a technique to fix that, otherwise it's perfect! (the bed will hide the bleeding) here's some pics: enjoy! up next - getting more paint to finish the truck bed. i accidentally fingerprinted it on a fender so i sanded it off and am going to re-do it. also, while waiting for that paint to cure, i'm going to start fabbing up the other stuff like the radiator, hoses, intercooler lines, and maybe the wiring to the injectors, along with a mock wiring harness. i did notice the 55 chevy truck model doesn't have a brake booster so i'm not sure what i'm going to do with that. i'll probably just leave it be. i decided to go with a black mesh grille and will make the intercooler from styrene sheets glued together and lightly etched with an exacto blade. updates will come soon! stay "tuned"

wgflatliner
i must say i'm very very proud of myself with this one, considering there's barely anything stock OOB.. i got the mesh grille installed, a front mount intercooler (hand painted HKS logo), intercooler pipes, got the glass in and didn't smudge it (with the exception of the vent windows that i need to fabricate need to do: mask off hood and spray underside of it, respray truck bed to fix smudge, install headlights and turn signals, get a "thin" fan, run radiator hoses, and the exhaust. it shouldn't be too hard. i may miss the deadline barely but i'm going all out right now. wgflatliner
i suppose if i submit it without the truck bed, then so be it. i'm packing my stuff and getting ready to head up to michigan for a week, but when i get back i have two complete days without work so i'll do what i can to knock it out. i know i won't have enough time to spray the bed, allow it to cure, and mask and spray the other coat. if it doesn't get done, then do i just keep my updates here or in my other thread that i have under workbench?
