slantasaurus Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Hey Jairus, I understand you did the design for the AMT 39 Chevy Wagonrod kit. Is this correct ??? If it is, it is a wonderful kit, modern chassis, great detail, nice design, etc. BUT, I have to know, how in the HE@#$#$ did you use my name on A CHEVY !!!!!!!!!! I've been a hardcore MOPAR MAN for 20 years...and I've never even met you, how could you do this to me. Of course I'm only half serious in writing this, I was completely shocked to walk into a hobby shop and see my name on the side of a kit box, but COMPLETELY ashamed/embarressed that it was on a Chevy. I think you owe me an appoligy, AMT wouldn't even give me a free kit for this. LOL. I have been trying to find another kit to bash one together with, wanted to use the 41 Plymouth, but the difference in width of the bodys is a little too much work. I'd really like to build this kit, but I just can't bring myself to build it as a Chevy...I don't even like typing that "C" word...
Mr. Metallic Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Adapt the front clip from an AMT '41 Plymouth to the wagonrod body. Throw a cool Mopar motor in it, problem solved Dang it, now I've given myself another idea. Build it so I won't have too! PLEASE!!!
Jairus Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Short answer was I designed the exterior, not the interior. Of the many illustrations that I sent to AMT for the Slammer series someone picked the Chevy woody design for a full kit. The interior and chassis were designed by someone at AMT, as was the name. When I get back home I'll tell you all issue and page where you can find the original illustration published in Car Modeler sometime back in the early 90's.
Billy Kingsley Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 I didn't know you designed that! I built one of them way back when. I need another, I want to do one up good. I hope AMT reissues it soon
slantasaurus Posted November 14, 2006 Author Posted November 14, 2006 OK, so AMT is to blame for slandering my name on a Chevy. I didn't think you'd do that to me. LOL. Thanks for the reply Jairus.. BTW I've already thought about using the 41 Plymouth front clip, about 1/4" too narrow to work and a LOT more work than I'm willing to put into it, I'd pretty much need to vertically section 2 cars together to do it.
Jairus Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Now that am home, I found the issue that the original illustration which inspired the Wagon Rod was published first... ah, in. Car Modeler, #33 Sept '95.
slantasaurus Posted January 7, 2007 Author Posted January 7, 2007 Well, you can imagine I was surpirsed that you used my question in the magazine this month. But you got my name wrong !!! It's RON, not Don. And just how often are you asked about using someone's name on a kit ??? Thanks, ( I think ) anyway, still giving you a hard time, Ron-slantasaurus
