The Brazilian speared off the track and into the tyre wall at Turn 4 late in the Q2 session after debris, thought to be a suspension spring from the Brawn car of Rubens Barrichello, struck his helmet.

Medics were quickly in attendance and the start of Q3 was delayed as they extricated the Brazilian. After initial examinations at the medical centre, Massa, eighth fastest in Q2, was transferred to hospital for further checks

WOW, what a shame. Hopefully he's ok.

Watching that vid his foot didn't even leave the gas. Hard impact.

Chris

Kind of wierd full throttle but did apply full brake too.

he didn't do a thing he was out cold.

60bar of brake pressure was applied at the instance he was hit, which more than a limp foot on the brakes, but not much more. The thottle was wide open.

I hope he is okay.

He is at AEK Hospital in Budapest ICU in an induced coma and is expect to be awoken tomorrow, but the docs say he is probably going to sit the rest of the season out (one to two months at least) but will know tomorrow what the prognoses is going to be.

They did successfully do surgery to releave brain swelling, did a repair to the skull, and stitched up the cut on his forehead.

Wow, yeah, I didn't think much when it happened but after all this it started to sink in. He's lucky, becasue at that speed? He lifted a bit but that was a second before. With the concussion and surgery, it's bigger than we thought. Isn't that how Senna died, the swelling?

Yeah, it would seem to be a bit more serious than we first thought. They are not saying anything but rumors have it he had a double or compound fracture to the skull.

No, he was impailed by part of the suspension that broke off - through the visor into the head. He was pretty much killed there at the track, besides sustaining 3 seperate head injuries, he sustianed a ruptured a temporal artery - he bled out before leaving the track.

In fact, that was the last Grand Prix fatality - 12 years ago.
