Custom Hearse Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I'm looking for a hood for the AMT '55 Chevy Bel Air S/M. The one that comes with the kit is too small, and doesn't fit well. I'm hoping that someone out there makes a stock resin hood or another kit has a hood that will fit. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Dave This is the fit of the hood that came with the kit. It's really bad.... I'm building a movie car, and it doesn't have a scoop on it. Thanks for the response Dave.

Dave I thought about adding sheet plastic to the sides. I may have to go the direction. How did ya guess which car I was doing? Ya must be psychic!
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Ya know, I have prob 5 of those kits and never noticed anything wrong with the 3 I have built, but I did open the ones still in the box and 1 of them does have a gap of .030. These are all old kits from yrs ago not re-issues. Like Dave said, it's a simple fix with a strip of .030 plastic.

I just hate the thought of having to repair something that is so off.... Thanks Bill.
Custom Hearse Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 I guess I'm gonna set this one aside for now. I just don't feel like doing a lot of scratchbuilding. All I want to do is build one kit straight out of the box for now.... Thanks Dave and Bill for your responses.
84vanagon Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Hi Marshall. The reason the hood doesn't fit is a lot of the tooling was based on the old 55 Nomad. Unfortunately when the new body was made nobody bothered to see if the carry-over Nomad hood would fit. At one time there was a corrected hood in resin. I want to say it was by Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland (not 100% sure though). They don't have a web site, but you might look through MCM to find a phone number.
Custom Hearse Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 Thanks Don! I'll have to check and see if they have one. And thanks for the history on the hood. It kills me that no one bothered to see if it would work O.K....
84vanagon Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Anytime, Marshall. By the way is that your hearse on the Professional Car board?

84vanagon Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Oops, I meant the blue Fleetwood in your avatar.
Custom Hearse Posted August 12, 2009 Author Posted August 12, 2009 It was going to be.... LONG STORY....
Rick Schmidt Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I checked out an idea thinkin I was gonna be slick. Figured since everything else from the Revell 55 fits the AMT why not the hood, but dagnasbbit its got even more of a gap lol
