revshag Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 I'm building a model and need to replicate the rust bubbles under the paint. Any ideas on how to replicate it? Here's a pic of the Jeep I'm building a model of: Thanks, Chris
James W Posted August 16, 2009 Posted August 16, 2009 You could add powder such as flour or baking powder to your red oxide /rust color undercoat in clumps. Then after you have painted over it, pick away the top color coat with a hobby knife point to expose the rusty material.
Guest Gassersgarage Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Sprinkle salt into your wet paint then weather as usual. Robert
VW Dave Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 there is also the Sophisticated Finishes rust set that you can purchase in Micheals craft store if you have one local. this is a two step process that replicates rust very realistically because well, it's real rust Dave Two Daves agree, it's good stuff for making rust:
purplehornies Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 take the area you want the rust to be at and put on a couple of coats of Tamiya liquid cement. Wait for the area to soften (10 seconds) then dapple the area with toothbrush bristles or press rough sandpaper into it. Let dry. Paint as usuall then dry brush the area with rust colored paint or pastel chalk to your tastes.
