Hey guys.. i know this might not seem like a big deal to most but I just recently got back into the hobby and have been trying to get a good spray and finish on a model car body for 3 or 4 days... I have done the best one yet... This pic is the product before wet sanding or gloss. the coat is nice and even and the primer and everything went very smoothly...... Please critique and any advice would be helpful.. the pic was takin minutes after the 3rd or 4th coat.....

From what I can see it looks good, looks sorta like it might have a lil orange peel, orange peel looks like an orange, but that can be fixed, with a lil sanding to smooth the paint out. But its looking alot better.....

Good start! As you said, it still needs wet-sanding, then some clear.

If the clear starts to look dry, try to either slow down just a little, and/or move in just a little closer with each pass. And, be sure each spray fan is overlapping by about 50%

I know the end result will look great!

Thanks guys.. yeah, I still need to wet sand and do a gloss coat or two... I sent the wife out today while i was at work to buy some sand paper and the highest she could find was 600 grit.. Needless to say, she didn't buy it ;)... Where do you guys generally aquire the high grit sand paper.. 8000-12000 ?

This prolly wont help much but try the auto parts store, or auto paint shop, the sheets I have are from testors, not that great but gets the job done,

Yeah, that is what i was thinking... I saw some clear coat laquer today.. The paint is enamel , would it be ok to use a laquer clear coat?

NO!! It will crack, badly if you do. It's ok to use Enamel OVER Lacquer, but you cannot use Lacquer OVER Enamel.

Sssssshhhhhhhh! Don't tell anyone. This will just be our little secret ;) Here is the URL to the company that makes Micro-mesh. They sell direct and are cheaper than other places. http://www.micro-surface.com/ :P

By the way, the orange peel that you have encountered is from the paint drying on the way from the source to the model and not having enough solvent left to self level once it is on the model. Two ways to solve it. Move the source closer to the model and move faster so you don't get a run, or if you are using an airbrush, more thinner. Best thing to sand orange peel with is one of the sanding sticks. Wet sand until the bumps are gone then smooth it out with finer grits. Get rid of as much of the sanding scratches as possible the clear coat with a similar paint.
