Dr. Cranky Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Ok, here we go again, another build in progress, and I hope this one will live in infamy if I can get to pull it off. Hope it will live up to its name . . . We'll see how it will go . . . and this is what I got so far . . . just cutting, mocking, and having fun so far . . . I've made room for four Caddy brake lights . . . I cut the top because I want the interior to be seen and you need to see why . . . I already made spacers to get the rear tires to come out a bit more . . . these are a set of big & little wide whites I had in my spare parts box . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 Geez, after all these years of building I keep coming back to the same kits . . . which is why I'm trying my best not to repeat myself . . . This one will be totally different than these two . . . I promise . . .
Jantrix Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 This looks like fun. I've got the same kit. Maybe i'll get some ideas.
Fletch Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 You've got my attention, based on the 2 previous builds I don't see where any one will be disappointed.
Terror Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 She looks sweet the way she sits now.But I can't wait to see the finished product.
Geezerman Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Looking good, Crank. Love the way it sets.
Dr. Cranky Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 Thanks, folks, this project should be fun . . . I hope. The tires came from Replicas & Miniatures of Maryland. Also, you can get them through Modelhaus. The difference is R&MofM are rubber.
Dr. Cranky Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 All right, maties, I got all the parts cleaned and ready for primer. I never get tired of being amazed at how wonderful this Revell 41 Willys kit is. It's got to be one of my faves on my TOP 5 list!!! Stay tuned in for pics . . .
made007 Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 Thanks, folks, this project should be fun . . . I hope. The tires came from Replicas & Miniatures of Maryland. Also, you can get them through Modelhaus. The difference is R&MofM are rubber. thanks cranky
Dr. Cranky Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 I got all the engine components ready to go . . . ready for primer . . . I expanded the rear axle so that the rear tires would look right under the body . . . And they do . . .
Raul_Perez Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 It looks like you're off to another GREAT start!! How do you guys get so much time to build?? I'm still plugging away at my '40 Ford and my '50 Chevy pickup. Later,
MikeMc Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 (edited) I expanded the rear axle so that the rear tires would look right under the body . . . And they do . . . Totally cool as always Doc!!! Did you use an axle stretcher for that? Edited September 4, 2009 by MikeMc
BigPoppa Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 cool build, interesting name, toeing the line with that lol
Dr. Cranky Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 I wake up ultra early and go to bed late, in other words, I'm an insomniac!
Dr. Cranky Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 Here's some more progress . . . I airbrushed my usual rust color on the body and chassis . .. Next up is the salt!
Dr. Cranky Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 I think it snowed last night in Florida . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 I airbrushed a bit of gray/white on the hood in order to apply some rubon lettering . . . with its name on there . . . these come from Woodland Scenics . . . After this process, I will respray with rust, then add the salt, and then remove the rubon letters with tape, and the name should come through . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 While everything dries, I painted some of the main engine components and assembled them . . .
Kyle Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 That motor looks great. Are the colours just different shades of metalizer?
Dr. Cranky Posted September 5, 2009 Author Posted September 5, 2009 Yes they are. I'm also adding some touches with the airbrush. The engine is going to be slightly weathered, although not as much as the cab and chassis . . . Stay tuned in for more progress . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted September 5, 2009 Author Posted September 5, 2009 Here's the first few coats of paint with the black and engine black from Floquil . . . it looks like speckled trout! Yeah, a lot of rust showing through, but we still have one more coat of paint . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted September 5, 2009 Author Posted September 5, 2009 I'm also working on the chassis and engine . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted September 5, 2009 Author Posted September 5, 2009 On this one I want the chassis to look cruddy, but not so much the engine . . . and the wheels are going to be almost like new . . . dressy shoes, that's what I say . . . Like this . . .
