bitner Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 This is the latest moving van added to the collection. I built the tractor while I was working on the dump truck. It's the reissue Titan, with a shortened frame and the rear suspension and rear end out of a Ford Louisville kit. i built the truck off of a photograph on the web. The decals on the truck are mostly made by me. The colors are Tamiya Camel yellow and British green. The trailer is the original issue Mayflower van with after market decals.
SpreadAxle Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Sweet! I always loved the moving vans because they are so colorful.
Kostas Parchas Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Nice and fine detailed rid!!! Kostas.
The Modeling Hermit Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 That's a beautiful rig, and well executed. I might suggest one improvement though. It would look much better if it was in my collection. LOL
Old Albion Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 I agree. That truck or any of Bill's trucks would look good in my collection. The paint finish particularly the stripes are very impressive. Bill, Out of interest (If you don't mind me asking) how many trucks and trailers do you have in your collection? From what I have seen you have an indreadible output of model trucks and very few are any where near box stock. Thanks for posting your work we do appreciate your great standards of workmanship. Best Wishes Dave
bitner Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 Thanks guys: No problem Dave, I think I have about 34 completed and around 7 trailers. When I get bored with trucks, I switch over to my N scale model railroad, or scratch building warships in 1/160 scale. Cheers: Bill
Jim B Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 You scratch build warships in 1/160 scale? They must be huge! Are they for your N Scale train set?
bitner Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 Hi Jim: Some of them are huge, but some like my 4 Coast Guard cutter are only a little over two feet long. The guided missile cruiser is 51" long. Here is a link to my Rail images album. All the ships are on there except ice breaker Westwind. I've got it built but not painted. http://www.trainboard.com/railimages/useralbums.php Cheers: Bill
Jim B Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Couldn't see anything, must be because I'm not a member. A 51" guided missle cruiser must be pretty impressive Ticonderoga-class?
Rob Hall Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Sharp build.... I've got a bunch of semi truck and trailer kits, but I haven't built one yet...
bitner Posted September 9, 2009 Author Posted September 9, 2009 Here are a couple of pics of the cruiser. It's the USS Canberra CG-2 circa 1968. It took about two months to build.
Old Albion Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Bill, You built that in two months? Very Impressive!! What an excellent model ship. Thanks for sharing it with us. Best Wishes Dave
Kostas Parchas Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 I am impressed, man you 're very talented and that is a gift. I like your work on this ship. I have to say that i was a crew member for 17 months on the HS THRACE (F-457) ex USS TRIPPE (FF-1075), for those who may don't know she is a KNOX class Frigate. I would like to see a scale model of a KNOX class frigate. OK lets go back to trucks... Kostas.
Jim B Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 Only two months? Would have taken me ten years! Very impressive ship with tons of details. Love it! Thanks for posting. Kostas, PM me. I think I know of some places that might sell a Knox-class frigate.
bitner Posted September 9, 2009 Author Posted September 9, 2009 Thanks guys: Kostas, I do have a Knox class frigate, the USS Lang. This was my second attempt at a scratch built ship. Cheers: Bill
Jim B Posted September 9, 2009 Posted September 9, 2009 That's beautiful! Where exactly do you put them? Do you have a dock on your train setup?
bitner Posted September 9, 2009 Author Posted September 9, 2009 Hi Jim, No they are "docked" in cases and on shelves. The Marine helicopter assault carrier I built will eventually go to my office when I get a case built for it. Cheers: Bill
Kostas Parchas Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Hey Bill, That KNOX is amassing. I am not expert about weapons, but I do remember that our HS THRACE ex USS TRIPPE had a phalanx weapon sitting on the deck behind the helicopter deck. I have to say that I am very excited looking these pictures. Hellenic Navy used to have many other types of war ships from the US as like as ADAMS class and FRAM class destroyers. Now days they use S class frigates (I thing made in Holland) and MEKO class (HN have four of them, the first unit made in Germany and the following three units made in Greece). OK, OK lets go back to the truck discussion, because the other members of the forum may not be interested for this issue. This is a commercial vehicle forum, so lets talk trucks. Kostas.
