Dragline Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Anyone have a trick to cutting out acetate gauges in a circle? My hand is not steady enough [it's the eyes really] to cut these things out in a perfect circle. I know there's a trick to it. Who knows said trick? TIA Bob F
MonoPed Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Get a piece of brass tubing the same diameter as the guages, put a sharp beveled edge on one end, tap with a hammer to punch the circle out.
dwc43 Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 I was wondering how I was going to do that myself. I was looking at using a hole punch that you use on paper. That would work for big speedo's and tachs, but not for the little gauges.
935k3 Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Look for a hollow punch set at places like Harbor Freight.
mr moto Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Look for a hollow punch set at places like Harbor Freight. What he said! I picked up a set from a bargain table at the local hardware for dirt cheap and they cut perfect circles every time.
Oldboychas Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 The hole punches work great if you use a semihard piece of wood under it for a crisp clean cut to the material. oldboychas (Charlie Bower)
dwc43 Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Look for a hollow punch set at places like Harbor Freight. Never thought of that. Here's a link to two sets I found on Harbor's site. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/disp...temnumber=67030 http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/disp...Itemnumber=3838
