I can't believe nobody mentioned Steve McQueen in Le Mans, especially at the very end of the movie. It's a racing movie. I consider it getting chased.

For racing movies, I like Grand Prix, Le Mans, and Winning. Talledega Nights is the best NASCAR racing movie, IMHO..

there were in the late 70's and early 80's alot of T.V. programs with regular car chases as part of the show. Dukes of Hazzard is the most well known, but the A-Team, the Fall Guy, Simon and Simon, C.H.i.P.'s and Starsky and Hutch were all shows that had regular chases. COPS has been airing regular chases for over 20 something years already!

Dave

I watched all those shows as a kid in the '70s-80s. About the only ones of those I can still watch and enjoy are The Rockford Files and Starsky and Hutch.

I'm very surprised that my all time favorite movie about fast cars was only mentioned very late in this discussion and then only once in passing. John Frankenhiemers "Grand Prix" is generally acknowledged as the greatest movie ever made about racing. I was lucky enough to see it in it's original format-Cinerama. I became addicted to F 1 racing after seeing that. I was just watching it again on DVD(I hope they do it in BluRay). The art of showing cars moving at speed was invented by Frankenhiemer in that movie. The expertise in editing the race scenes is beyond anything I have ever seen. The use of the 1966 Belgium Grand Prix is a great historical document. The drivers meeting has all the greats of the day. Household names from the era - Stewart, Hill(Phil and Graham), Mass, Ginther, McLaren, Moss, and just about any one else that was in F1 at the time. I was about 17 or 18 at the time and it left an indelible impression on me that lives to this day. If you have not seen the movie - get the DVD, a big screen, and a massive home theater system, crank up the volume and be prepared to be blow away.

For those to young to remember, the camera car used in this film was a Mk I GT40 driven by Phil Hill. Can you imagine one of todays prima dona's doing that?

I love that movie..first saw it on my folks' 25 inch Zenith in '78 as an 8 yr old and it made a big impression on me.

Most recently saw it on DVD on my 60 inch TV w/ surround sound..incredible. It's no coincidence that this and my favorite modern chase movie ('Ronin') are both directed by the late John Frankenheimer. The driving scenes in Ronin are great because there is no CGI cheese..it's very visceral.

Oh my god I feel so stupid I forgot Ol' Jimmy.

My favorites are

1) Bulitt

2) Ronin

3) Blues Brothers

Not a car chase but it needs to be added,

The Charriot race from Ben-Hur

I agree.

I love that part

Zsa-Zsa Gabor gets out of this cars, slaps the flashing lights and says "This happens every f**king time I go shopping!"

A very short car chase I liked, The Police officers in the cop car ( with the chain on the rear axle) chasing the Pharaohs, in American Graffiti.

A couple more for ya, how about The Wraith with Charlie Sheen, and does anyone remember the movie Thunder Run? Heck I even found an anime with a good car chase, it was called Gunsmith Cats. (67 Shelby vs Mercedes SL-500) No one has mentioned Hardcastle and McCormick ( I love the Coyote)
