oldskoolmini Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 (edited) Okay. I have this idea rolling around in my head for a while to have a build off for old farm trucks large and small, forgotten wrecks to barn find restored pieces. even a modified car hauler from a grain truck or something. would anybody be interested in such a build off? I will be onverting the amt 1950 chevy pickup into a 2 ton flatbed dump truck. more than likely it will b stock but i do want to bag it with the straight front axle and install stacks and chrome rig rims. THE RULES 1. Must start with untouched kit or one that is just starting. 2. must be trucks from 1920-1980 3. (Optional)write up a short story about the vehicle(life of truck or found and restored type stories. 4. must be fullsize truck. no minitrucks or imports 5. conversions to larger sized trucks are incouraged.(1/2 ton turned into a 2 ton. or regular truck turned into wrecker.) 6. must post pics of progress 7. the deadline is april 1st. extra time will be allowed. Custom Hearse Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 I just got this off Evilbay... It fits the requirements. Let me know when you're ready to start this build.
oldskoolmini Posted October 18, 2009 Author Posted October 18, 2009 WOW! great find on ebay. cant wait to see it done.
Custom Hearse Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 WOW! great find on ebay. cant wait to see it done. Thanks! Are you going to have the build off? I'm just curious...
oldskoolmini Posted October 19, 2009 Author Posted October 19, 2009 I will start it when there are a couple more people on board. do think I should do the chevy a stock flatbed or lowered with stacks, chrome rig rims and chrome saddle tanks? i want to do both with one model.

I'd say do what you like best. That's the fun of model building! I'm not even sure as to what I'm gonna do yet with the truck, but I like the idea of writing a story to go with it.
James W Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Haven't quite got the subject nailed yet, but this will be the condition.
James W Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Found a nice brochure with an L700 image and stats. The kit scales to 89 inch WB. I had a small car with the same wheel base! I'm thinking of changing the engine to a slant 6 and building a feed spreader and nerf bars to protect the livestock.
Mark R Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Long time viewer short time poster.I say roll with it...I would be in for this type of build !
Custom Hearse Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 I've figured out what I'm gonna do with it... I'm gonna build a rat rod farm truck! What do ya think?
JamesW Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Wish I had a truck from one of those era's. I'd love to do this.
Aaronw Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Wish I had a truck from one of those era's. I'd love to do this. Look for the Lindberg 3 in 1 '34 Ford truck kit. It is a nice kit with lots of optional parts and its only about $12, sometimes cheaper on ebay.
93Z34 Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Hmmmm..I wonder if AMT's '50 Chevy stepside pickup would qualify for this build..... Maybe an old derelict farm truck left to die quietly on a hillside somewhere...
oldskoolmini Posted October 28, 2009 Author Posted October 28, 2009 the build off is a go! the 1950 amt chevy is what im using. i'll start the official build off forum in the workbench section.
Roadkill2525 Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 2. must be trucks from 1920-1980 4. must be fullsize truck. no minitrucks or imports So I couldn't make something like a local farmers trucks? He has two 1984 Datsun 720 Kingcab 4WD pickups and a 2001 Silverado 2500 Extended Cab.
oldskoolmini Posted October 28, 2009 Author Posted October 28, 2009 i can include trucks from the 90's and 2000's as well. just no imports.
oldskoolmini Posted October 29, 2009 Author Posted October 29, 2009 leaving out "imports" leaves out a few very cool trucks that would work very well as farm trucks, just not maybe farm trucks used in the U.S. there is the Opel Blitz and the Mercedes L3000 and Uni-Mogs, Volkswagen pick-up and more. i have a family member who has a Volkswagen Rabbit pick-up that is used on his farm quite successfully. this is the second time i've seen "imports" not included in truck builds here, not sure i understand the thinking as to why to not include them. Dave i will allow a couple of exceptions

Dave dont know my uncle had 2 samurais and a b2000 and they were great farm trucks, hes a plaintain farmer in PR, he owned a C10 for the longest, no doors windows or headlights they loaded it too much one day it buckled the frame. the b2000 has a strapped frame and solid rear suspension to prevent mishaps again.
