Gator's not that far behind and just got another year older today.

I can honestly say that, from the time we brought him home from the hostpital until today, no one has ever had a better brother or friend.

He's easily the best birthday present I ever got, even if he was three days late. And from coupes to wedges, from dirt to Daytona, there is no better race car modeler around anywhere!

Happy birthday from me too!! What time is the cake and ice cream?

It's been too cold for ice cream around here today and the Fire Department said they would rather we didn't have cake. Between his birthday today (53rd) and mine this past wednesday (60th) they said the candles would be a severe fire hazard!

At 62 and still actively building several hours every day, and every model is getting better even after modeling after 50 years.......I sure wish you guys lived around here. You guys in my contests are considered "juniors" lol.

But our tastes are all of the same, partly because we all remember the glory of the fifties and sixties in hot rodding. I believe thanks to Overhaulin', Foose, Pinks, Speed Channel, the late Coddington, Discovery and Learning Channel, Barry White, we are still in a rebirth of the "golden age" of cars. Even back in the sixties, we didn't have such neat coverage on TV.

When we have model car events, be it constests, shows, swap meets, or the like, the best we can do is be ambassadors to our hobby, hoping to inspire someone to get active with their hands, build their dreams they otherwise could not afford, and enjoy their liesure time working with their hands. Great stress reducer.

This hobby is responsible for my youthful attitude. I have an enthusiasm because I and as a result of building and creating. If only others realized how relaxing this hobby is.

On July 12, 1974, I got the best birthday call from my little sister I could have had--my nephew Rodney was born, in Colorado Springs, CO, where her husband was stationed in the US Army. To this day, to this childless old man, Rodney is my favorite of all my nephews and nieces, for being my 30th birthday present, and for being just the tremendous all around person that he's always been. He was a great kid growing up, and is a very special nephew as an adult too, an inspiration.

We've shared perhaps a dozen birthday parties over the last 35 years, and believe me, in a family as generally as close as mine, those have been special (Rodney and I were each given Super Soakers on our birthday in 1984, and of course, we both were dripping wet within minutes--I won, BTW!!!). And now that he has moved back to Indiana, with his wife and two young sons, I suspect that a SuperSoaker event will happen once again, come next July--can't wait!!! :o

I know how my Grandmother felt, as I was born on HER birthday, in 1944, a fact she never failed to mention at every opportunity--it was great as a little kid to share my special day with her.

So Luke, continue to enjoy your brother, let him reciprocate, and go ahead, challenge him for that last slice of birthday cake!!!

So where is your spirit of adventure??????? Just don the Nomex, put the backava on your heads, have the fire extinguishers ready! Now, come the day you turn 90, and he 83, that should be a global warming event for sure!!!!

And one of the best presents I could get on that day would be for you to still be around to check out what he builds me and share some slightly candle scorched birthday cake, old friend.
