Scott Colmer Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 To restate an earlier post and support others in this thread... An Off Topic place is OK, but please no religion or politics- ever. It just does not work. Scott
Modelmartin Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 And there's the problem. What is off-topic enough to be "off-topic?" Are joke threads off-topic? Are links to youtube videos off-topic? What about the economy and getting laid off from work? Is talking about the economy "political?" What about the status of GM and Chrysler? "Political?" Off-topic... or not? For those members who want this place to be strictly about model cars and nothing else... for those who tell me that this is a place where they want to get away from all the rest of life's topics, and who remind me that there are plenty of other sites available where almost any topic can be discussed, I would have to delete everything that doesn't directly relate to model cars. Like this very thread, for instance. For those members who do like a little variety, how "off-topic" is too "off-topic?" Do I keep some off-topic stuff going at the risk of alienating other members? I think the phrase "between a rock and a hard place" applies here. Looks like I'm in a classic "no win situation"... You and Gregg are masters of this universe and you guys should do what YOU want to do. If you try to please everyone you will not please anyone so you guys should just please yourselves and it will all sort itself out. Definition of too off-topic? Like the Supreme Court justice said. "I can't define pornography but I sure know it when I see it"! You guys do a good job of running this forum. Dealing with humans is messy stuff and you do a commendable job.
ricky12 Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Im one of those people that never saw the poll to vote . But i also thought it was just no politics no religion.Im also a firm beleaver that if you dont like topic head line dont open it to see if you will be offended. This was a part of History and if you ever get a chance to go down there they have a neat little musseum there that had lots of info on this story
Jon Cole Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 No politics or religion.. shouldn't need a vote IMHO, as that is common sense. As for any other topics, based on what I have seen so far, the solution is simple... No one is forcing anyone to open any threads here. In other words, you can "vote" every time you check the board. And I like this board just the way it is... with maybe the exception of scanning about 24 forums to see everything. But I can live with that.

E St. Kruiser50 Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 All I can do is leave up to you guys to decide what you want. I can't make anyone vote. This whole mess started because several people sent me PMs complaining about off-topic stuff. I figured the fairest way to go would be to have you guys vote on whether the off-topic stuff needs to go or not. Like I said, the majority of people who bothered to vote voted NO off-topic stuff. I'm not a mind reader, so I can't tell you how everyone who didn't vote would have gone... all I can go by is the response that I got. I can't help it if most people didn't vote, that's not my problem. Like I said, personally I don't have any problem with off-topic posts, in fact I like the off-topic stuff! But I was getting too many complaints via PM... and I really don't have time to go through everyone's posts and decide whether or not it's "off-topic" or not. I'm not Judge Judy. So I put it to a vote and the result was no off-topic posts. So first I get people complaining about off-topic posts, now I get people complaining about me trying to enforce what you people yourselves told me you wanted!!! HARRY.....THE FIRST THING I'd like to do is compliment you on doing a GREAT JOB here on the forum trying to provide all of us with what we want, and would like to see this forum be, and support us in the topics we post. Personally, I don't see how you do it, with everything else you have to do besides . BUT.....I DON'T SEE YOUR JOB AS A BABY SITTER....FOR EVERY LITTLE COMPLAINT . Most everyone here is pretty grown up about what's posted, but a few seem to like to "STIR IT UP", or COMPLAIN and want everything their way. I understand that "THE OTHER FORUM" has some pretty hard and fast rules and his line of communication is viewed as 'PRETTY BRUTAL". I think his style of communicating, and his methods of keeping the rules and order, are the biggest problems, "NOT THE RULES THEMSELVES". DIPLOMACY AND GOOD COMMUNICATION ARE THE SKILLS USED TO EFFECTIVELY KEEP ORDER AND MAINTAIN THE RULES, WITHOUT FEELING LIKE YOU HAVE TO MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY. TO ME, IT'S NOT YOUR JOB TO MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY....WHICH AS YOU CAN TELL "AINT NEVER GONNA HAPPEN" ANYWAY . YOU AND GREGG BOTH HAVE A GOOD SENCE OF HUMOR HAVE GREAT PERSONALITIES, AND EVERYONE LIKES YOU GUYS BECAUSE YOUR ONE OF US, AND YOU TREAT US LIKE FRIENDS AND FAMILY, AND YOU LISTEN TO WHAT PEOPLE SAY AND RESPOND RESPECTFULLY...MOST OF THE TIME .....YOU NEED TO DRAW STRENGTH FROM THAT. WE ALREADY KNOW YOU WOULDN'T TREAT US LIKE "THE OTHER GUY", SO YOU NEED TO QUIT WORRYING ABOUT COMPLAINTS AND MAKING EVERYONE HAPPY. WE'RE MOSTLY ADULTS HERE, AND THOSE WHO DON'T ACT THAT WAY NEED TO BE NICELY TOLD "TO GET OVER THEMSELVES AND GROW UP" . WHAT I'M SIMPLY SAYING IS, "WE ALL NEED RULES AND REGULATIONS" FOR GUIDELINES AND BOUNDRIES, SO THERE ISN'T UNMANAGIBLE TURMOIL HERE. YOU AND GREGG NEED TO DECIDE WHAT THOSE RULES ARE, AND THEN THAT'S IT ...NICELY, RESPECTFULLY, FIRMLY, AND DEPENDABLY REAFFIRMING THOSE GUIDELINES....SIMPLE .
