colin Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 With all the hype before it's release, things have gone dead on Trumpeter's 1/12 GT40. Has anyone purchased or built one yet?
Len Woodruff Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I have one and just got new decals to do the red #3 that Gurney drove.
djway3474 Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I have only glanced over mine but the worst part I saw was the seats. Motor looks salvagable but does look simple at first glance. Suspension parts are said to be big but knowing they are plastic I doubt they could have been much smaller with as heavy as this thing is going to be. All the chrome needs to be stripped and sprayed the appropriate metallic shade. Most everything else looks good.
stump Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Aye, I weakened as soon as I laid eyes on one in the flesh...(plastic ) Was fortunate enough to have my mate Andy let me thoroughly go thru the box contents at his shop..he had one opened for such occasions... I am more than happy and will get to it one day...unfortunately, the bench is too busy atm.... Like Len, I have looked into alternative decals and paint scheme as I never seem to have any luck with black.....
Harry P. Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 I know people have pointed out various "issues" with this kit... but I saw one built-up, on display at the Trumpeter booth at iHobby last week, and regardless of any accuracy issues this kit may have, it looks incredible when built and fully detailed.
Len Woodruff Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Since Scale Motorsports scrap doing a detail kit have there been any other rumors of people doing "more " correct parts & pieces for this kit?

Here's the photos of the Display model Harry's talking about. The GT40 kit is really not my thing but I have to agree it does look very cool when finished !!! -Steve
djway3474 Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 That looks good and it appears to be a simple out of the box build. Use some reference photos, add some more details and better detail painting and it should be a stunner.
Harry P. Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 It is very pricey, that's for sure. Not my cup of tea, but if it was, I suppose I'd take the plunge.
