Is there a clear that dosen't react with any type of paint, that also has a decent price? I just bought Some Duplicolor clear and it's Sh8t, I've used testors without many problems before.

The stuff I use is from Floquil. It's called Crystal-Cote #F110004. I haven't had any problem putting in over the top of different types of paint. The only time I've had a bad experience is over enamal silver and it tended to take off the shine from the silver. The downside to it is that it does take a long time to cure. I haven't had any yellowing problems with it. I mainly use it for when I'm shooting over the top of decals that are very sensitive. And it doesn't harm the decals. Usually you can find a 1 oz. jar for under $2. I can usually spray 4 or 5 1/24 scale models with one bottle.

Where can you buy it?

Future floor wax is great for using as clear coat and it has many other very helpful uses as well! Search the net for "The Complete Future" and it will tell you everything you need to know.

Dupli-Color clear is a great product when used properly. I use it all the time to clear. So do lots of others, including Bill Stillwagon on his customs with perfect finishes. If you use Dupli-Color paints (that are lacquers) over enamels, you are going to have a bad reaction, such as crinkling and paint lifting. You can't put lacquer over enamel, because it is a hotter paint. You can use enamel over lacquer with no problems, though. You can get a decent clear coat with the basic Testors clear, by carefully sanding each coat, and hoping you don't get dust in the final coat. The lacquers though, including Tamiya's clear, will have to be polished to get a mirror-like shine, if you're shooting for that. I've even had great results recently using a $3.50 can of Krylon Crystal Clear clear coat, polishing it out. Just remember not to put a hotter paint over a cooler one.

I get mine through Great Models. You can often find it in places that carry model trains. If the place carries Testors Paints, they should be able to special order it since Floquil is part of Testors. Here's a web site for Great Models. Hope this helps.

The prices seem to have gone up quite a bit since the last time I bought it. They have it listed as just under $5. I'm sure if you shop around, you can find it for cheaper.
