Rider Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 (edited) Hi guys I'm new to this forum, I've been on the site for about a year just never been here. There are some great looking builds on here, I'm not much of a truck guy but I do have 2 in my stash that I'll get around to building some day. Until then I'll just sit back and enjoy watching your builds for now. Isn't that Kenworth K100 pictured in Murphy's Law WIP the same as an Aerodyn. AMT/Ertel did a great kit of which was originally from 80-81 then re-released in 89. I had one in 80-81 and would like to get another. I've just recenlty learned it's a hard to find kit, anyone have information on this kit? Or know if it is hard to find? I can't seem to find one, but that's not saying much. Jim B Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 The K100 that is shown is a later model than the AMT kit, but yes, it's a K100 Aerodyne.
mackinac359 Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 The term "Aerodyne" was used by Kenworth as the name for their tall-roof sleepers on both cabover and conventionals in the late 70's and early 80's. ZIL 111V Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 The KW K100 Aerodyne is surely one of the best looking class 8 COE tractor ever made. AMT was first in presenting the K100 Aerodyne kit back in 1980 in 1/25, 1/32 snapper & 1/43 kits: 4 versions of the 1/25 K100 Aerodyne truck where made: -Tyrone Malone "PAPA" K100 drag truck transporter for the "Super Boss" -TM "Hyde Out" K100 drag truck transporter -BJ & the Bear TV series K100 tractor -K100 tractor (blue) the 1/25th tractor kits was based on the "stretch" frame of Tyrone Malone "Papa" & "Hyde out" transporters, that's why we got the longer frame on the highway tractors (get's you that stretch"west coast look"!) The Tyrone Malone & B.J & the Bear Tractor K100 kits where made available until 1983-84, gone since then, the K100 Aerodyne (blue) was kept thru all the 80's decade by Matchbox, then ERTL until 1992, then dropped, the same kit made a come back in 2002....(fast seller) then vanished again...eBay is you best place to get one.............but pricey! AMT's K100 Aerodyne is a nice kit, found it much easier to assemble then other AMT tractor kits.... the interior tub is a bit "botched up" the floor tub is 2/3 complet! + bumper & muffler stacks looked a bit "skynny" but these set aside, the finish kit is really neat with that long wheelbase frame. Back in 1982 Revell Germany also made a 1/25 K100 Aerodyne kit, a real beauty when completed, the kit was in & out thru the 80's-90'-00's, also reissued 2 years ago, now harder to get.
Rider Posted November 27, 2009 Author Posted November 27, 2009 Thanks for the infomation guys much appreciated. I completely forgot about the Boss and the hauler, they where great looking trucks. I've never seen one built up though.
studioman3 Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 The Revell K100 is a nice kit, and not too hard to find on Ebay. Here's a pic or two of mine. I just picked up some photo etched stacks and chain binders from Sourkrauts and a set of alluminum tanks to add to my next one. Hope you like Tim
chuckyr Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Here is a Revell K100 I built about 15 years ago. It originally was the Aerodyne kit, but I replaced the high roof with an Alan Royer flat roof.
