2002p51 Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 I have only this much of an AMT '61 Ford pick-up: It's basically just the body, front grille/bumper, chassis pan,"glass", and complete interior. Modelhaus has the hood I need, the taillights, and the rear bumper. What I need from youse guys are some ideas about, or sources for, the bed floor and inner wheel wells. I can most likely scratch build the bed floor easy enough, but those inner fenders pose a problem. The plans for this truck will require an open bed so please don't suggest some sort of bed cover. Thanks. Now you can go back to your leftover turkey.
disabled modeler Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 hi, im in about the same boat .....i have one of those in need of lots help as well, mine was one of my dads old models im trying to repair. im thinking the amt ford van floor might work with some trimming ect. to make fit and i my have that van floor in a parts box but will have to look around.....................mark
Eshaver Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 O K , I'll teack ya woew to do come elcheapo wheel houses . Go get a section of clothes rod . Take the clothes rod and slowly heat a piece of Evergreen Syyereene over the wood rod . The best to use is about .015 sheet . NOW FOR THE SIDES : Take a piece of . 040 sheet and Super Glue that to the shaped Rounded wheel house . Round over the edges and finish off with some Bondo . Give me a P - M if this proves too over yer head . They call me a fabricator for a reason ! Ed Shaver
disabled modeler Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 hey Drew.....i had an idea about the wheel house tubs, look at the chassis of different cars in the under hood areas, maybe the inner fender panels molded to them could be cut out and used? mark
Marc @ MPC Motorsports Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Drew, I have a mold for some resin tubs that I did for a buddy a few years back. Let me see if I can pour you a couple. All I have for resin right now is the fast setting Alumilite tan but I'll give it a try. Here's some pics of them. Let me know if you think these might work. Marc
2002p51 Posted November 28, 2009 Author Posted November 28, 2009 Marc, I'm not really sure what shape the wheel wells are supposed to be. (I tried a Google image search and nothing showed the bed.) The depression in the sides of the bed are round and not sort of three sided like yours are.
lordairgtar Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 (edited) http://www.classiccarmarketing.net/forsale...20%28bed%29.JPG This is what they look like. Edited November 28, 2009 by lordairgtar
lordairgtar Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 That's kinda what I showed but I don't know how to make it appear in the forum.
Harry P. Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 That's kinda what I showed but I don't know how to make it appear in the forum. As long as you post the link like you did, that's fine, too. Your link takes you right to the picture...
george 53 Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Drew, this might sound kinda dumb, but if you take a lid from a testors small can of spray paint, cut it in half, you'll get 2 nice rounded wheel houses. Then just trim them to the width you need. May not be FACTORY correct but at least you can size them to the size tire your runnin.

It would be like a pro street tubs. Not the look I'm after. Looking at the photos Harry posted I think these can be made from some thick enough Evergreen sheet to give me enough material to round 'em off.
jeffb Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 what george said..but use the inner ring from the lid..its much smaller in diameter
