I was at a "gathering" of a new model car club and one of the guys was talking about a show in Arizona that he has been invited to. Evidently its a HUGE, invite only show/contest of 150 of the worlds best modelers. Do you guys know anything about this, or a website I could go to? He said that the people who run the show are actually looking for working windows, door locks, lights, and other things. That blew my mind! Was he pulling my leg or is this true?

yes, "hellonwheels3 or 4 or whatever"..(.make sure you put your name in the bottom portion of you box or the web nazi's will get you!!!)

there was a show that has since been cancelled, that was an invite only. Some saw it as a snub at those who were not invited, some saw it as a waste of time, others were just p----ed off about the whole thing. But it did exist, and yes there were about 100-150 builders who were invited to attend and they were looking for the most working features...even to the point of valves and lifters and the like....in 1/24 automotive subject matter only......which is what I had a problem with...if you hold a contest for the top builders of the "world", then scale and subject matter should be irrelevant.....a great model builder is a great model builder....regardless of scale and subject!!!

It's tongue and cheek George........I thought you were old enough to have thicker skin than that!!!! I was using that as a slight way of nudging "hellonwheels" to put his name on the bottom before Harry got to em!!! (yes, I know it's the rules....look at my sig line!)

Dave, this place is like home to me, these guys here are like my brothers, If you offend one of them you offend me. You'd be surprised at how thick my skin is and what I've been thru, and when I'm loyal to someone or thing, I'm loyal to a fault.

Gregg an Harry go thru alot to give us this place, and it does ruffle my feathers when it's not appericiated. Sorry to have gotten so bent outta shape, but Gregg and Harry are my freinds, and I'd NEVER refer to them as nazi's jokeingly or not. I appologize, and yes, it would be REAL nice if the newbs would READ the rules BEFORE they join and FOLLOW them. :)

It was called "The Master's Challenge" The rules were pretty basic - automotive subject, 1/24-25 scale, one entry per person, $100. entry fee. I sent my money off right away but it got returned about 6 months later. It is a shame so many people were so negative about it. All it took to get an invite was to have someone who was already invited invite you! It couldn't have been easier! I never thought I would have had a chance to win but I just wanted to participate and be there. It was obviously for the highly skilled model builder. They are plenty of contests and NNLs for the less skilled and less ambitious model builder to go to. I was really disappointed in some of the people who were going around bad-mouthing it. Most of them weren't competitive builders anyway. I don't know the actual reason for the cancellation but I was bummed out, Man!!!

I agree Andy. It would have been a really cool get together. I sent mine in right away, too. I think all the negative response played a big part in killing it. But we still have GSL to shoot for. See you there!

I remember it Barely, The concept was good but the execution was lousy. When the members commitee could'nt come to a consensus on how they wanted it to run it all fell apart. It was basically started after the last Copperstate show.
