I was on another forum and someone said EthelMethelKetone (or something like that name) was the ideal for glue for styrene so I purchased some but it was like applying water to attach the parts , now recently someone mentioned XYLENE as the ultimate adherent .

Can anyone here confirm this ?

I have tried Tenex and others without success .

MEK is very nasty stuff. It works very well, but you need lots of ventilation, and you might want to wear a respirator if you're using it.

Xylene is the basis of a lot of plastic cements.

To be very honest, I've always used Testors tube and liquid cement with good results. Don't use it too sparingly, or too much, and you'll be fine with it.

I have used Plastruct Plasti-Weld, too, and that seems to be pretty decent. For some fiddly assemblies, I actually like superglue because it holds quickly and fairly well.

I would just stay away from mek and other solvents for glue especially when you don't know what you are dealing with.those solvents have a specific purpose and are usually mixed with something else so using them straight from the can can be dangerous. how are you using tenax that isn't working for you ?I use an old brush to apply it .some common problems you may run into are the glue drying before you get the pieces together or not prepping the parts (scraping paint and chrome off ,working with clean plastic).hope this helps and seriously get rid of the mek it is horrible nasty stuff!

Charlie, like the way you roll. I use the orange Testors tube for the heavy-duty joints that need some serious bonding, and CA for the rest of the quick work and dedicates. Any glue that is more caustic than that is only practical for work that goes beyond the kit IMO.

Ever try AMBROSE and a syringe like applicator? I got a long skinny gizmo that you stick in the jar and it just sucks the liquid up into it, then just touch it the part your gluein, and Badda boom, it's glued. I haven't used tube glue in YEARS.

honestly can't see any reason to. I WOULD stay away from MEK though, it IS some MEAN stuff! :P

If you want to avoid the large range of glues and adhesives developed by chemists , you shouldn't have any problems.

Just buy yourself, and anyone else in your home one of these:

I'm with George here I use Ambroid pro weld and a Touch and flow aplicator on all my models . If i want something a little slower i use Testors liquid in the black squeeze bottle. I hardly ever use Super glue on anything as i don't like the properties of it. Seeems the stuff i have used have all fallen apart on me now si have to redo those parts and going with some Ambroid now. I haven.t used the old orange tube glue since I was a kid and have only use Ambroid and the testors liquid since I got back into the hobby almost 20 years ago.

Where do you guys find Ambroid liquid cement? I have Ambroid tube cement but Tower Hobbies did not have the liquid stuff when I ordered mine.

I have just started using Tamiya liquid cement and must say it works great. I may never go back to Tenax-7R

My LHS and local HobbyTown USA store both carry Ambroid Pro Weld. Just bought a new bottle last week. Haven't tried Tamiya but I hear it is great stuff.
