Does anybody know if there's an aftermarket source for various sizes of headlight and tailight lenses?

I hate to keep raiding my kit stashes for lenses.

Eugene , uh , theres Model haus, Rwplicias and Miniatures of Maryland , but they make specific lenses for specific cars. You would't call Bob Drake Ford reproductions needing 1940 Studebaker taillights . Bob handles tail lights for Fords 1932- 53. Uh have you considered going to michiaels and buying a quart of Clear casting resin amd perhaps making some of your own ? For flat lenes , take ,015 Evergreen clear sheet and tint your own using some good ole square bottle metallic Red paint from the back side . Use epoxy or Elmers to adhere the lens . Short of that neighbor , I aint got any mo sugestions . Ed Shaver

I started a stash of un-used kit lights that has helped me out quite a bit. Since I do a stock car now and then, the lights go into the stash. You might trying asking if anyone could save you some at one of the NASCAR builder boards, Randy Ayers is probably a goood one.

Hi Squiddy, welcome! i have some boxes of mixed parts i can dig through if you need something you cant find? just give me a good idea what your looking for.....i think we are all looking for something........mark

Yeah, Ed and Bob are right- you're pretty much going to have to make your own, or raid other kits. Mark's got some to give away, from the sounds of it- maybe you can put up a post in the 'Wanted' section of the forum so anyone else who has spare lenses they don't want can help you. If making your own doesn't seem like your best option, plenty of modelers have spares!

Squiddy , use the liquid latex sold in the local craft shops to the railroad model builders . I have also used Red Silicone sealer with mixed results for one piece molds too . Ed Shaver

There is also a product you can find in the Train section of most LHS. MV Lenses. These come in a myriad of diameters and colors. If you are doing customs, these are great. The only down side is that they dont have any fluting on the lenses. (That's why I mentioned about the customs) I have used them on a couple projects. I like them when doing recessed taillights. I really like the tiny blue lenses for use as blue dots for the kit taillights.

I believe you can also get them through the Walthers web site (A mega train supplier)

Good Luck!!

Thanks for the assistance....Picking up some clear resin and using silly putty molds just might work for those little lenses......

I have several sizes and shapes that I have cast for my personal use. I can possibly sell you what you need if you can give me the exact diameter of what you are looking for. I have clear, and clear with scribed lines. I also have some that I made the masters for, and then cast. I use a UV stable, crystal clear resin. You will need to use a micrometer and give me a decimal equivalent (like .320 or .288) for me to help you. If you tell me, "it's about an eighth of an inch", I can't help you. I can also cast about any "primary color" lenses, and some shades in between.
