rssschris Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 OK , alot has been said about engine colors, but what about transmission colors ? Chris
Jim B Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Most of the transmissions that I've seen are either semi-gloss black or red oxide. Of course, Ford had their transmissions aluminum.
Steelgears13 Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 OK , alot has been said about engine colors, but what about transmission colors ? Chris I worked at a re-man center for truck rear ends and transmissions. The majority of "new" and transmissions that haven't been rebuilt with used parts, are semi-gloss black, while the remanufactured ones are painted an oxidized red. I did see however, by working in the cores deparment for a year, that some trucks transmissions were painted to match the engine, frame color, or maybe even the body color of the truck they were in. If you want to get real crazy, the bellhousings were generally painted gloss black, or aluminum.
Old Albion Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 (edited) I found this web site selling remanufactured and new transmissions. You can see the colours mentioned in previous posts. http://stores.ebay.com/Pro-Gear-and-Transmission-Inc Hope this helps Dave Edited December 5, 2009 by Old Albion
Aaronw Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Most of the trucks I've driven in the past 10 years used Allison Automatics and they have all been unpainted cast aluminum.
cargostar Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Most manuals are black, autos could be black or natural aluminum. For realism, (at least on Internationals) they may have frame colored overspray on them. IH installed the engine and trans in the frame before it was painted, so depending on how accurate the worker was putting the masking on, there could be little to major amounts of overspray on the trans, and engine.
