Merk Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 (edited) Hi guys: I have been building a cool custom speed boat. It is made from wood, plastic, resin and fiberglass. The styling is 50s-60s with big tail fins. Boat is nearly done, still deciding on a power plant. Think I might use the Desoto Hemi out of the 53 ford kit. The six carb mill should be about right for the era. Scratch built a trailer. Also working on a 65 ElCameno tow vehicle. This was not my favorite kit but is building into a good model. Had to do a lot of body work. Painted it this weekend. Paint is looking good so far. It's duplicolor light blue met with a couple coats of clear. No sanding or buffing yet. The front bumper and grill assembly does'nt fit to well and needed some dremal work but I got it installed. Here is a pic of the Cameno test fit. Merk Edited May 14, 2010 by Merk
dwc43 Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Pretty nice. I wanted to see the boat though. And where can I get a dune buggy like that in the background of your pic there?
crazyjim Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Nice looking El Camino. Where's the boat? DWC43 -the dune buggy appears to be an EMPI IMP, if that helps.
dwc43 Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 DWC43 -the dune buggy appears to be an EMPI IMP, if that helps. Thanks, but not really. I'm not familiar with that.
Craig Irwin Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 It's a Revell kit, last issued as the California Dune buggy. The old AMT Meyers Manx has been announced for reissue sometime soon.

I'd like to get a hold of one of those, along with a real 1:1. Everytime I find one, they cost way tooo much, or someone beats me to it. Like the last one I found. A guy bought it at his yard sale before I got there.
crazyjim Posted December 7, 2009 Posted December 7, 2009 DWC43 - you can buy the Empi Imp shown in my avatar. I can provide specifics if you're really interested.
dwc43 Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 DWC43 - you can buy the Empi Imp shown in my avatar. I can provide specifics if you're really interested. Yeah, that would be great. I'm just not familiar with EMPI. If it's not too expensive, I'd love to have one. You can post it here or pm me if you wish.
Merk Posted December 10, 2009 Author Posted December 10, 2009 (edited) Hi Guys: I added some racing stripes to the El Cameno. The Buggy is the Revell California Buggy Kit. Pictures of the speed boat soon. Thanks for the interest, Merk Edited May 14, 2010 by Merk
crazyjim Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 dwc43 - I sent a pm to you about the buggy. I'm not sure if it went through and don't know how to check if it did. If you didn't get it, let me know and I'll do it again.
dwc43 Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 I got your pm. Pretty sharp little buggy. I know you said led tail lights, but are the housings from a Mustang? Kinda look like them if you turn them the other way.
crazyjim Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 Yeah - I guess '64 or '65 Mustang housing and lenses with LED bulbs behind. Very bright.
