New guy here, been stalking for a while and finally decided to post. Question.....I have two of the AMT/Ertl Pete wreckers and I believe they are the original issue, not the one molded in red and one of them as a "Limited Edition 5 Vintage Series" sticker and the other one doesn't. I was wondering if anyone knew the differnce in the 2 kits? Been told the one with the sticker has some additional Gulf decals but haven't cracked them open yet.

Thanks,

Interesting 351... KW sleeper on it sort of fits.

The wrecker body is by Don Hines of South Union Body Works. Sometimes called a Hines Stick or Bakersfield Boom.

Each one was custom built by Hines' shop in Bakersfield.

The last one was built in the 90's according to Hines.

The AMT Peterbilt Wrecker, originally issued as kit #T522 was updated with the 1100-series cab in '75 as kit #T533. The issue of T533 and all subsequent issues of the Peterbilt Wrecker are the same kit. The decals have changed slightly over years, but are still Don's Truck Plaza.

The 'Original' Issue was a small-window Pete (as seen in the pic of the 351) , the other re-releases were the larger-window Pete , easiest way to differentiate is the small-window has an oval view window in the lower portion of the passenger side door and the larger window Pete does not .

It is so much easier to answer specific questions if you have a picture to go by .

If your kits are AMT/Ertl they are definitely the larger window later issue Petes .

I personally have never seen an AMT truck model kit molded in red ? Unless you are talking 1/32 or 1/43rd scale ?

I imagine that Bakersfield Tow Truck had a busy life rescuing Trailer Trucks on the Grapevine .

Thanks for the help and sorry for the confusion. The "red" version I was talking about was the re-release I assume within the last 10 years where the model on the box is red with no decals.

Here is a link to the ones I have. Just interesting that one has the gold sticker: "Limited edition vintage series 5" and the other one doesn't. could just be someone pulled the sticker off one of them.

Sorry if the link doesn't work.

Tim,

You seem to know a lot about the Hines Stick. I am in search of one. Would you be interested in contacting me at jcgale1@gmail.com?
