charlie8575 Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I liked the TV show, this one seems a bit caricaturish, but then again, almost all entertainment now is. Sad, isn't it? I might still go see this, it looks like it might be good for a laugh or two. Charlie Larkin
Nick Winter Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Like I said, it wasn't real graphic and bloody, but there are scenes and episodes where you clearly see the guys getting shot and dropping to the ground and such. There are also scenes where dead victims are breifly shown laying around and whatnot....Sometimes there were small amounts of "stage blood" on the victims...It depended on the episodes... Trust me, I'm a detail freak, I notice these things.....lol. Jeff that is exactly what I was trying to get across, most of the body shots weren't that focused, or were from some distance. my dad tried to get me interested in Gunsmoke. one of the channels was running it in the 80's and he remembered it from when he was young. it didn't interest me but i did notice how anytime someone was shot there was no blood, ever. if you watched the Dukes of Hazzard on T.V. and then thought you were going to see the same thing in the movie you were bound to be disappointed. the movie is pretty good and very entertaining. Willie Nelson plays a good Uncle Jessie and it's full of some pretty sweet stunts. personally i think the movie would have been just as good without the boob shots and the pot smoking and leaving that stuff out could have made it viewable by a younger audience. the A-team movie could be good as well if you go in and put that memory and thought of the T.V. show and the characters aside. watch the movie for what it is and don't compare it to the show. Dave Dave I love Gunsmoke, I've got it on DVD to. I went to the last few Dukefest and met the actors, it was a really fun exsperience, I talked to John Schneider about the '05 Movie he was not pleased at all, he was Very pleased with the car stunts and most of the other stunts but not the way it depicted Uncle Jesse and just the story behind it he was very unhappy, infact the exact words he spoke to me were "it's awful, just awful" that year the full cast was there except for Denver Pyle and Sorrell Booke (god rest there soals).
Guest snapper Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 Don't forget Hardcastle and McCormick and that cool car. My brother and I had to convince my parents to let us watch the Duke boys, because they thought it was too violent and had too many guns. We didn't give up though, and I think they realized after watching it with us that it was a good 'ol show. CHIPS and Airwolf were our other favs. I wasn't allowed to watch A-Team.
Greg Cullinan Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I watched it as a kid, in the early 70s. Great show. I also liked Bonanza. Whatever happened to TV westerns? There used to be tons of them, now not a single one. Gunsmoke Maverick Have Gun, Will Travel Bonanza Wild, Wild West Rawhide (Clint Eastwood got his start there) Alias Smith and Jones High Chapparal The Rifleman Hec Ramsey Big Valley Laramie And many more I can't remember off the top of my head. A whole genre of TV drama gone. Strange... I say these words daily Where are all the current westerns.3:10 To Yuma was a good movie and now there won't be another western made for five years. We have a channel called Encore Westerns and they play alot of the above mentioned shows.I tune in daily, right now I'm watching Cheyenne,Have Gun,Will Travel is next and then at primetime they play movies.Spaghetti westerns are some of my favorites.
Harry P. Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 I'm always in for "Lonesome Dove" (the original mini-series with Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee Jones, Danny Glover, et al) when one of the cable networks shows it. Best made-for-TV movie ever, IMO. Better than "Duel?" "Roots?" "Rich Man, Poor Man?" "Brian's Song?" "The Legend of Lizzie Borden?" And so many more that I can't think of now?
charlie8575 Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Better than "Duel?" "Roots?" "Rich Man, Poor Man?" "Brian's Song?" "The Legend of Lizzie Borden?" And so many more that I can't think of now? They did a Lizzie Borden movie?? You do realize that Fall River is only a couple of towns over from New Bedford? I'll have to check for this- is it on disc or VCR tape? Charlie Larkin

Harry P. Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 "The Execution of Pvt. Slovik?" "The Taking of Pelham 123?"
charlie8575 Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 "The Execution of Pvt. Slovik?" Not familiar- details? "The Taking of Pelham 123?" I assume you're talking about the mid-70s movie that was supposed to be very, very good? Charlie Larkin
Harry P. Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Not familiar- details? I assume you're talking about the mid-70s movie that was supposed to be very, very good? Charlie Larkin Execution of Pvt. Slovik starred Martin Sheen as Eddie Slovik, it came out in the early 70s, I think. And Pelham 123 was a made-for-TV movie years before it was a theatrical release. I don't remember many details, it was long ago, but I seem to remember Walter Matthau was in it? But I do remember that it was good. I'm not sure if these old made-for-TV movies are available these days.I recently watched Lizzie Borden on youtube, but the problem is it's chopped up into about 6-7 "episodes." Maybe hulu would have these movies in one piece? Edit: Pelham 123 was originally a theatrical movie with Walter Matthau (the version I remember seeing), then a made-for-TV movie, and finally a theatrical move again (Denzel Washington???)
dwc43 Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 This one would have been a better version for a movie using most of the original cast. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCIflgviF7A
Ken Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 My favorite westerns were "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr." and "Jack of all Trades" though. , , I'm a Bruce Campbell fan. LOL Then you must, like me love 'Army of Darkness' and you gotta watch 'Burn Notice'... or is that a different Bruce Campbell.
beefheart22 Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 The A-Team was uninspired and stuck to a strict formula... god bless TV. This movie is going to stink like a diaper full of burnt hair, but I'm probably going to watch it anyways.
Nick Winter Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 "The Execution of Pvt. Slovik?" "The Taking of Pelham 123?" If your speaking of the 1974 movie, it's great, the new one I hated.
