I built this about a year ago from the Model King 'King's Comet' Reissue...

Aside from the wheels, roll bar, and cam covers it's just a quickie, three evening mostly box-stock build. The decals are a combination of dry transfers and spares box items.

I glued the body and interior tub to the chassis to convert it back into a 'door slammer', as the kit is meant to have a flip-up body. I used a '66 Mustang firewall.

Eventually, I plan to add some better tires and a pair of door handles, but for what it is, I'm pretty satisfied with it as is!

Looks good Chuck. I gotta ask though. I can see from you info that your way out in there in Mich. So where did the NJ Devil inspiration come from? The Pine Barrens Speed shop is a nice touch.

Good question! Here's the answer- Dave "Model King" Burket is based in New Jersey, and that's where this kit came from. When I think of Jersey, the following things come to mind: Dave (of course), The Misfits, Kevin Smith, Jon Bon Jovi, and the Jersey Devil. Since a "Jay and Silent Bob" funny car probably wouldn't have worked, I went with 'Jersey Devil', since it kind of sounds like a good name for a '60's drag car, anyway. I'd even planned to make 'Jersey Devil' decals with a font that resembled the Misfits logo, but couldn't pull it off.

So there you go- the "Jersey Devil" theme is basically a result of my mind working overtime, connecting dots that are miles apart! ;)

Really did a great job on this one......luv the red windows.

Thanks- whenever I take this to a show, all people want to talk about are the dam red windows! ;) That, and the red headlamps. Again, Jersey Devil thing- I wanted the car to look evil and menacing, so I went with red tinted glass and headlamps. Yes, I know the tinted windows were illegal by most sanctioning bodies of the era- still, seemed like plenty of racers ran tinted windows!
