studioman3 Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 I had to put another one on Ebay to make room on my shelf, its a KW K100 tri drive with a 50 ton detachable goose neck lowboy with a Farrel compounding machine for a load. I thought I would make a post here, since there were a few guys interested in my last lowboy that sold. Heres a link, http://cgi.ebay.com/KW-k100-scratch-built-detachable-goose-neck-and-load_W0QQitemZ120522438283QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item1c0fb2768b, wish me luck. Tim

RodneyBad Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Great looking Truck. Good luck on the sale. Looks like it is going good.
studioman3 Posted January 28, 2010 Author Posted January 28, 2010 Thanks guys, I liked the looks of it so I've started a new one just like her, but loaded with detailing, I just got a metal lathe and started turning parts,(fuel tanks, air tanks and breathers, horns, pullies, and maybe lights), plus I will be getting tires and wheels from my friend Jamie @ Mo'luminum. The new one will fill her spot on the shelf. I will start a new thread with the progress of it later on. Here is a sneak peak at the engine details so far. Tim
Jim B Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Nice engine detail. Looking forward to the rest of the build.
studioman3 Posted January 29, 2010 Author Posted January 29, 2010 James, it was your engine detailing link that got me going on this, it was quite helpful. Thanks Tim
Jim B Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Glad I could help. Is that the Revell Cummins 855?

Tim Wouldn't it be easier to just add a shelf?
studioman3 Posted January 29, 2010 Author Posted January 29, 2010 Jim, I don't see anywhere on the box what motor it is, it just says it's 400bhp. I don't know much about trucks, but I assume it's Cummins. I was unsure about the motor color as well, so I went with blue and will call it a custom ordered color. I imagine there is a correct tranny color too, but that information is hard to find. James, as far as another shelf, politics is all I can say. My wife has seen Mr. Ahlborn's youtube and is making sure I don't start laying a new block foundation where our patio is suppose to be. She knows me all too well, LOL Tim
Jim B Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 (edited) Tim, You're a funny guy! I had a good laugh about adding onto the house. Yes, SWMBO probably would be upset if you made a truck room out of your patio. As for your engine, I does look like a Cummins, and the "factory" color would be beige; but blue works for a custom job!. The transmission should probably be semi-gloss black, unless you're going custom there, too. Edited January 29, 2010 by Jim B
Old Albion Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Tim, The engine is a Cummins NTC475. Its easily recognised by the twin turbos. Correct colour maybe white for Kenworth at that time. But what ever colour you want. Dave
studioman3 Posted February 1, 2010 Author Posted February 1, 2010 Thanks Dave, they should give that information on the box for us guys who lack knowlege of the industry. Tim
Jim B Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Kenworth stopped painting their engines white in about 1973-74 (give or take a little). After that it was factory color. Even when the color was white, apparently it wasn't uncommon to see tan or green engines in the max.
Old Albion Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Jim, Interesting your comment about the year that Kenworth stopped painting engines white. I wonder if they gave the buyer a choice. White or OEM colour? I have some photo's of a 1978 W900A with a 3408 painted white. It was a truck for sale on eBay last year. The seller said the engine was in original condition and had not been overhauled. I think the original mileage was 300,000+ if I remember rightly. Beautiful truck went for about $ 6,500 or there abouts. I copied all the photo's for a future project. Best regards Dave
Jim B Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 That's awesome! A 1978 with 3000,000 miles? Not too bad. Probably like at Peterbilt, Caterpillar was the last one to stop painting them white. Which at Peterbilt was around 1986 or so.
