bigphoto Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Does anyone know off hand what percentage this kit is smaller than 1/24? As there is a company that is willing to print me a particular set if I get him the % difference.
Abell82 Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I believe that it is generally thought to be about 1/27th or 1/28th scale. scale.
Casey Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Does anyone know off hand what percentage this kit is smaller than 1/24? As there is a company that is willing to print me a particular set if I get him the % difference. I think Keith Marks might be your best hope.
ChrisPflug Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 All the proportions aren't necessarily the same when comparing to the 1:1 or especially to other kits of the same subject- best bet is to base decals on a particular body rather than assuming they'll fit properly by making them a certain scale Maybe make a set to check the fit (just use regular paper to see how they fit) and then adjust an electronic file till you've got exactly what you want- then print as decals
george 53 Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 The MPC kit is 1/27th scale, or so I've been told. I have the 69 and 70 AMT mustangs (from those days) and the MPC kit IS VISIBLY smaller than the original AMT kits. But the hubcaps in it are ok.
ChrisPflug Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 But the hubcaps in it are ok. .....For a '68 anyways
bigphoto Posted February 1, 2010 Author Posted February 1, 2010 Thanks for the input gang It is also cool to see fellow Michiganders helping a brother out too!! The Kieth marks set is made for the Revell kit which is also visibly larger. I am going to have the company print the set at 2% smaller and go from there. The company is Pattos Place they have some very cool decals especially if you are into racing. http://members.optusnet.com.au/pattosplace/home.html

bigphoto Posted February 2, 2010 Author Posted February 2, 2010 What kind of Mustang decals are you looking for? I am building the 69 Boss car of Peter Revson from the Shelby team and probably Horst Kwech or Dan Gurney.
Harold Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Actually, the MPC kit is a bit of a dog. Go out and buy the Revell '69 Mach I.
Junkman Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Actually, the MPC kit is a total dog. I hope they stop reissuing it before the end of the space-time continuum collapses. I just measured this styrene atrocity and it is 182mm long. The real car is 4710mm, so the model is 1/25.88 or 1/26.

I am actually OK with the kit as I know it is not on par with the Revell offering (which I also have) but this is part of a same kit build project in a club I belong to. bigphoto Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 Happy sink mark filling. What are you going to do about the engine? I am using the Boss 302 from the AMT Cougar with a dual quad parts box intake. I am going to fab the ram air box.
