Dr. Cranky Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I still don't know what I am going to do with that glassless windshield. I think I am going to tape a tattered and torn piece of clear plastic of some sort . . . but this one is done . . . and on the shelf to collect more natural weathering!
Rat Fink Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I am in awe at the abilities of the folks here. That is one cool model Mr. Cranky. My suggestion for the windshield would be to have the window moulding hanging loose with some broken glass still clingin to the edges?
Railfreak78 Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Fantastic backyard find there my friend! How much? I happened to be driving by and I have a tandem axle trailer. Another great build bud and wow. "bows to the rust master"
Hillbilly Deluxe Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I do not like Drag cars, Gassers especially. I absolutely despise the '41 Willys. Now that is crazy talk!!! I love gassers and this one looks great!!!
raymanz Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Great weathering job!! You've given me some awesome idea's too apply too my stuff. Really like the way you did the bare metal on the trunk! Great Job! You can checkout some of my weathered stuff and other real 1to1 rides at HUBGARAGE.Com,Check it out it's one of the coolest sites I;ve seen!!!!
Terry Jessee Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 In-CRED-ible. Absolutely incredible. What field has THAT been sitting in? Now I'd like to see a stock '40 Ford coupe done that way. Hmmm? Nice work, V. Terry
weasel Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 nicely done!! how 'bout taping a piece of glass over the drivers side?? just half the windshield...
Tony T Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Nicely done! After all that time, all the tires still hold air! Amazing!
Eric Stone Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I'd love to see what you could do with, say, a modern day sports car, left to neglect & despair for many years. is anyone else curious what an SLR MacLaren or a 550 Maranello would look like 50 years into the future? I don't think it would have the same visual "gotcha" as rusted through fenders done with paint and plastic- Just some oxidized paint over some carbon fiber...
Raul_Perez Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Very nice weathering, as usual, Virgil!! I've got to get back to building weathered backyard dioramas. I've done well in the past selling them at the NNL, but I just didn't have time to build any this year... Thanks for sharing,
John Teresi Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Very cool.....great weathering......do you sell any of your work?
Eric Stone Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I've seen some "super cars" from the seventies & eighties in that type of disrepair. they aren't all that super at all. A rusty 1985 Ferrari Testarossa? Yes, I have seen one. (in it's defense, it was driven, daily, in Syracuse NY. yes, even in the winter.) Besides, I can imagine it. Especially when the bottom falls out of the whole "collector car" craze... Did you ever see the Top Gear episode where they were thrashing the '70s "super cars" bought on a budget? I don't think any of them finished the challenges because they all broke. What I meant above was, the new ones don't have much iron or steel on them to rust- but I do get where you're going, that it would be an interesting project to see such a beautiful, admired, sexy car (which ever one you choose to do) reduced to a dull oxidized heap. I just don't think it would be as interesting as rusted fenders on a car that is already old. You'd think a guy who has money to buy a Testarossa would also have money to buy an additional car as a daily driver...
Dr. Cranky Posted February 9, 2010 Author Posted February 9, 2010 Thanks, everybody. Yeah, it was fun working on this one. John, no, I don't sell my work. Most of it ends up in my collection cabinet. Thanks for asking though.
Eric Stone Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Sorry, Cranky, didn't mean to head towards a thread jack there with the rusty exotic conversation we're having on the side. Nice weathering job, and cool looking Willys!
Jon Cole Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Cranky, another masterpiece of rust. No need for a windshield. But if you want to try something for an alternative, how about a weatherstrip? Worn and sagging across the top. I bet an "o" ring would work. Just a thought. You do have one advantage of the "shiney" crowd... never worry about collecting dust on the shelf!
philo426 Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Looks great! How about some pics of the engine?
John Teresi Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Thank`s Cranky for your respond......I only asked because I like to collect stuff from all the great master model builders......Thank`s,John
Dr. Cranky Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 Oh, I forgot to take a picture of the engine . . .I will tomorrow. Thanks for all the kind words, folks. Cheers.
Harry P. Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 The master strikes again. Not much more to say...
Dr. Cranky Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 Thanks, Harry. We're building models to stave off the aging process. I think it might be working.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 Again, thanks for the kind comments, folks. I really appreciate them.
Janne Herajärvi Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Who needs windshields when you can wear driving glasses and helmet? Its all away from weight Very cool Willys there Cranky!
Dr. Cranky Posted February 11, 2010 Author Posted February 11, 2010 Thanks, Janne. Yeah, goggles would fix the problem.
Yekoms Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Nice build... If you do a windshield how about a dull, hazed, red or blue plexiglass one... Smokey
