RodneyBad Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Great looking Stratus.. paint and decals look great..
Eric Stone Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 That's a very good looking cleanly done build... ...of a funny looking car.
Randy Kern Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Another great model from one of my favorite race car builders. Funny looking? Maybe to some. Fast and durable, yes. Ferrari power! That turned out beautiful, Dale.
Harry P. Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 Very nice, great detail and very clean. Doesn't get much better than that! Just one question, though. Why the mismatched wheels? Not trying to be a wise guy, I just don't know anything about these types of cars.

It matches the pics though. Hasegawa does allot of versions of this car so you always get extra wheels leftover. Thanks to all for the comments.
Junkman Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 (edited) Why the mismatched wheels? The East African Safari Rally is arguably the toughest contest in motorsport history. The 1975 edition - and this model depicts one of the entries of this year - was plagued with severe weather conditions, which turned the roads into mud. Generally the Stratos was totally ill-suited for the venue anyway and Lancia struggled to keep the cars in the race even in years with better conditions. In the muddy conditions of this particular event, both teams, Munari/Drews and Waldegaard/Thorszelius found that the cars developped extreme understeer, to the extent, that they were practically undriveable. In an attempt to get more grip for the front wheels, the Lancia technicians decided to mount the narrower 'Monte Carlo' wheels up front. It didn't help. The event was won by Ove Andersson / Arne Hertz with a Peugeot 504. No Stratos has ever won the Safari. Edited February 15, 2010 by Junkman
