Ken Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Hey all, I want to build a replica of the 'Burn Notice' 73/74 Charger. I have the AMT 71 Charger, which will be a great starting point, but it has the louvered hood. I need a flat hood and a 440 6 scoop. Somewhere, I have the Monogram 69 440 Bee, but it is 1/24 not 1/25 of the AMT kit. Is there a readily available 73/74 Charger or does someone in the aftermarket make a flat hood. I was planning on filling in the side strakes to make the body, but the hood has me stumped. Thanks guys

You need a 1980's issue MPC Super Charger kit and a flat hood from Time Machine Resins. Those kits show up on Ebay all the time and shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg.
diymirage Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 i have a 71 charger in my stash i think let me check and ill get back to you around this time tomorrow
Jordan White Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 Just so you have a focus, the car used is a 1973. (1974 models had a pair of bumper guards at the bottom of the grille).

I have been lurking, but between all the 1:1 projects and 'honey do' stuff, modeling time has been short. Trying to slowly get back into the bench. Hopefully, building something for the wife will be motivation enough. I am also building a Revell Challenger for her. She watches NCIS and has fallen in love with the new challenger.

Yeah, but in the novelization and occasionally in the show, the car is referred to as a 74. There are actually people that believe it is a 69????

There are actually people that believe it is a 69???? Eh, I'm just going by the pictures I've seen of the car. Perhaps it's a 1974 with a '73 grille for all I know.
Ken Posted March 3, 2010 Author Posted March 3, 2010 No, you are right it is a 73 Charger, but I figured that I could get away with using a 74 Charger kit if that was all that was available. I have a non-bumperete front from the AMT 71 that I could use.
mrmike Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 I built a "Burn Notice" Charger last year using the AMT '71 Charger. I got the hood from Time Machine Resin and a 6 Pack hood scoop from another modeler. I posted a WIP elsewhere but here's the link to my Photobucket pictures. http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y224/mrmike007/Burn%20Notice%20Dodge%20Charger/ If you have any questions, email me and I'll try to help you out.
diymirage Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 i checked my kit and for some reason i have the AMT 71 with the louvered hood
Ken Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 Yeah, I looked at the superChargers on Ebay and most had a bulged hoods. I guess it is off to Time Machine for some resin pieces.
