Guest Sickfish Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 DWC43, thanks alot for your time & great to know us Mopar boys down here have good ol' Mopar boys up your way to help us out! I can see why you're a Mopar boy now...i would be too if i had been influenced by all those Mopars you had around you!!...I was influenced by the most famous Mopar of all time....yep....the General George...awsome story...gold bumpers...might be a project down the line.... Eshaver, mate i checked out that site, it's pretty awsome as far as the world of auto paint is concerned but i can't seem to be able to get paint in small amounts?? They only look like they sell per gallon/quart, which is way too much & more than i want to pay, before shipping! I was messing about with mixing/trying to match K5 from my paint stash yesterday & what i've come up with is this....Do you guys think it's a close enough match??? I used a black base coat under testors colours by Boyd Orange pearl. Or is it too light/dark??? Cheers Cliffo!

Use the paint code number from that site he gave you and check to see if you can buy touch up paint from your local auto parts stores. Here they come in a small bottle of only a couple ounces with a shaker ball in them and a brush to repair paint chips. You could put it in an airbrush and use it that way. A couple bottles with thinner should be more than enough to do the job. I found this clips by accident before I started reading e mails. Considering where you are from and Mopars and all, I wanted to share. It's an Aust. movie called Running on Empty, but here in the states it was called Fast Lane Fever. Not the best movie in the world, but some nice cars for sure. I watched this when I was a kid and have a copy of it somewhere. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5NpgDiHfYA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBi1gUR6H3Y
Blake Rogers Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 red and white one is nice the bronze one is even nicer but as a mopar buff that Bee the red and white one never came from the factory like that at all nice combo color wise but i am dead sure its not factory.
nails3825 Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Thanks a bunch dwc43 & James!! Both really generous of you to go to the trouble of helping me out James, unfortunately for Ford i'm a Mopar guy through & through. Although i appreciate Mustangs etc i don't see myself building one, unless i'm paid to, in the near or far off future. They just don't excite me like Ma Mopar's products do, if ya catch my (Hemi ) drift? ! Thanks though, really appreciate the effort you went to for me! Cheers, Cliffo! lol, I know what you're saying... I've been a fan of Mustangs since the very first time I was able to start one up ~ a '68 cherry red fast back. I was only twelve years old back then but the rumble of the engine and look on my dad's friends' face when I asked kindly to drive it around seems like only yesterday. In all, I'm a fan of muscle cars ~ regardless of the make or model. They just don't make them like they used to, the mid 60's and early 70's... some awesome machines back then. Your paint mix seems to have a little too bright of an orange tint, it's very close to the actual color though. I can't wait to see this one get started
Guest Sickfish Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 DWC43, the pics were taken about 10mins after i shot the paint, since then & overnight the colour has deepened somewhat & now look's even closer to K5. I already had the code & tried a couple of local auto paint supply stores down here but neither of them could locate/or their PCs program couldn't locate & come up with a mixing sequence for K5... . I know all bout that movie, Running On Empty! Sweet big block Challenger in it Moparfan, the white 'Bee is definitely NOT factory optioned but should've been, so that's why i'm gonna have a shot at building it as a phantom factory car, just as i suspect the real 1:1 owner did... Cheers Cliffo!
Blake Rogers Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 sweet cant wait to see that one i mean that would have been a cool combo in real life
Guest Sickfish Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Thanks Blake & James. I'm really keen to get these started & start posting pics ! But i've gotta wait for the 2 kits i bought off ebay the other day, should get 'em in 7-10 days. In the meantime, as you know, i'm trying to get the mix right for K-5...i think i'm real close.... Also, i've really had no quality time to do a heck of a lot on the body i've got because of work etc. I'm real keen on getting these 2 'Bees built to a new level ( standard ) for me., hence the reason i'm searching for good detailed pics of the undercarriage. I've also gotta wait for Keith Marks to get back to me on how to order the red c-stripes i need for the phantom 'Bee. I know it sucks, waiting, but i've learnt over the years & my preference in building, is more about quality rather than quantity. I may not get many models built over the course of a year but i do try to get the ones i do get built, built to a quality standard i set myself. Matter of fact finishing four builds over the last 7 months is a record for me, oduring the last decade or so... When i'm all set to go with the 'Bees build & have what i need to put in some quality time, i'll be starting a thread in the workbench section ok guys! Cheers, Cliffo!
Guest Sickfish Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 In the words of the immortal Roscoe P Coltrane....Good news, Good news my fat little Mopar buddies! kew kew kew!! Just got back from a local auto paint supply store & got me some factory K-5 Dark burnt orange!! WoooooHooooo!! I'm stoked!! Happy as the "proverbial pig in the poop"!!! These guys are gonna come in real handy!! Cost me $15 for a tin, 250ml, more than enough to do a fleet of K-5 cars!! But project 70 stock K-5 is now a go go go!! I also picked up some factory Hemi orange while i was there!! Check it out... Now it's just waiting on the new kits & Kieth Marks!! Cheers guys!!
