Dr. Cranky Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 Thanks, Peter and Marcos. Peter I like your idea of using red. You might get a lot of mileage out of incorporating the interior color as an accent on the body color. I hope you give the technique a try. Of course I am always on the lookout for fabric and materials that can be used as templates for airbrushing. A trip to the fabric store will yield a great crop of possibilities. Happy painting!!!
Mooneyzs Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Once the engine got done, the rest was just having fun with the airbrush. I started out doing the water dropplet FX and then suddently I thought . . . um . . . it'd be nice to try snake skin . . . (and I will explain the process in a bit--it's really easy and fun). Cranky.... This is BADA$$.... I absolutly love this paint on this '32. Fantastic job my friend. I can't wait to see more projess on this build. I do have to ask you where you got the headers for this engine? or did you scratch build them? I am wanting to find something like them for my '32 Rat Rod I am currently working on. Keep up the great work. The detail on this engine looks amazing. Very nicely done, what did you use for the spark plug boots?
Dr. Cranky Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 The headers are the ones that come with the kit. I just stripped them and painted them again. The spark plug boots are watch parts. Thanks for the kind comments.
Janne Herajärvi Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 WOW! that paint job is too cool Nice engine too
Mooneyzs Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 The headers are the ones that come with the kit. I just stripped them and painted them again. The spark plug boots are watch parts. Thanks for the kind comments. Thanks Cranky.... YOu know what I feel like a DumbA$$ now....I just realized that this is the revell's '32 3 window kit you are building and I am working on the 5 window kit ... Oh man big ole brain fart for me today. I need to see if I can find one of those 3 window kits now.
Dr. Cranky Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 LOL!!! Remember this is the brand new chopped resin from Norm Veber . . . it sells for 25 bucks . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 Here's some progress on the interior, which I wanted to build as clean and as smooth as possible . . . the only after market parts are the steering column and the steering wheels, made from aluminun by Don Kerns. Innitially I wanted to print up some snake skin for the seats, but I decided to go with flat white in order not to compete with the paintjob.
Dr. Cranky Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 Here's another tutorial I found that might be useful although this kind of snake skin is done with a different kind of netting material, which is very cool too, and the results are fabulous . . . http://www.xmodsforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2304
Clay Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Wow Virgil, that looks amazing!! I need to get my area organized so I can get to building again.
Dr. Cranky Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 Build away, buddy. It's one of the best happyness-inducing hobbies out there!
Deckerz Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 xmodsoure and xmodsforum, im a long time member on both, bondo does some great tutorials. Very nice work the car.
Ryan S. Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Great work Cranky, this is going to be beautiful when done. That engine is a worthy model in itself!
Dr. Cranky Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 Thank you all. Yes, it's a fun build. Stay tuned in for more progress . . .
Mooneyzs Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 (edited) that Interior looks great Cranky. Love the white with the orange dash. Very Clean and Simple!! Edited March 11, 2010 by Mooneyzs
Dr. Cranky Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 Thanks, I am working on the rolling chassis . . . stay tuned in. The front suspension game me a bit of a headache, but I think I got it worked out . . .
Railfreak78 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 My friend you strike again! Fantastic so far. I love the colors, interior, and the simple steelies with white walls. I actually thought of doing a similar snakeskin paint on a Cobra kit. I don't have an airbrush so I never thought about a bubble effect and they go together rather smoothly. Once again I am very impressed bud!
Dr. Cranky Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 Thanks, B. I appreciate the support. This is Tangelo from HOK, just about my all-time favorite color from them.
oldscool Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 That is one superbly clean build! A demonstration of just how nice the Revell Deuce kits really are. oldscool
MikeMc Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Thanks, B. I appreciate the support. This is Tangelo from HOK, just about my all-time favorite color from them. I am honored Cranky, we have something in common!!!TANGELO RULES!!!
Dr. Cranky Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 It sure does, man. HOK has some other nice colors too, but this is it!
Guest Mustang3.8 Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Great job on the paint, Cranky. That would look sweet on a Viper or Cobra. SSSSweet.
