Guest Sickfish Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 (edited) Brad that's exactly what I used, metal mesh ;-) I cut thin strips ( to fit ) & tacked it around the filter with superglue. On another note, I wasn't overly happy with the simulated rubber sealing ( it was too wrinkled ) or the space between the seal & the air-holes, so I've spent the day re-doing the whole air-grabber. I sanded off the molded-on air-holes & used strip styrene/rod to replicate/re-do it. The wrinkling problem has been solved by flattening/softening the heatshrink tubing by ironing it slowly & carefully under some old cloth. I'm also going to put it on a different way too. After the air-grabbers are re-painted I'll put the seal on & post some pics ;-) Edited April 26, 2010 by Sickfish
whale392 Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 That's what I thought Cliff.......it looked like the same stuff I have here at the house. Thanks for confirming that sneaky suspision for me!
Guest Sickfish Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 (edited) Dave & bluesman, while I don't mind the odd chit-chat about all things Mopar, I don't think I need any more info' on 69 bees & what diff' they did/didn't come with. My 'Bees are 1970 year models & I have the necessary correct info' on what came or was optional with this year model. As far as I know the Dana 8 & 3/4 did come on 70 Bees & the Dana 60 was optional but standard on Hemi cars. I do have proof. These pics were downloaded from cars, claiming original running gear, engine, tranny & diff', off cars for sale on Ebay. All are 440-6 pack cars.... The last car was for sale by Best Of Show Automotive. If you've heard of these guys you'll know their cars are quality with a capital Q! ;-) This car, along with the other 2, are all 440-6pack cars & this one has the Dana 60. The other 2 have the Dana 8 3/4. That being said I'll be using the Revell 69 Dart's Dana 8 3/4 for the phantom Bee & obviously the Dana 60 for the Hemi Bee ;-) Dave, I would've thought it was common sense to mask off the trim before laying on the adhesive spray. Chrome is supposed to be smooth not vynil-y textured ;-) Maybe I guess I'm paying more attention to things like this?? Cheers guys & thankyou, Cliffo :-) Edited April 27, 2010 by Sickfish
whale392 Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Cliff; you didn't die, run off, or send these builds to the scrapper did you? I am missing my 'Bee' fix!! Help a junkie out brother.........update this thread!
Romell R Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Sickfish you have done and outstanding job on this project.... Im a deatil man myself you can check my builds to see what i mean. I too have been building a very long time (since I was 5 im 43 now I think LOL! you do the math) I have entered and won many contest and shows including many magazine speads. You spoke of upping your skill level which you have done superbly, but let me add this, an undetailed interior on a model of this caliber will only take away from its beauty. When i build I like my models to keep the eye moving from one section to the next and back again. The interior gets more attention than most people think, I have seen people (at shows) looking into the cars with magnafiying classes and flash lights. Some suggestions: photo ecthed window and door handles, open ash tray radio faces, replace the kit gauge faces with some from model masters or MCG (model car garage)a pair of glasses on the dash helped me to win best in show a few times, simple small details get noticed. You have put yourself in a level of modelling that few dare to go and you are doing it the right way continue in that direction dont half step your project. Your interior is a detailing project in itself. Keep up the good work and I apologize for writing a book in your thread. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/uploads/emoticons/default_wink.png' alt=';)'> check this link if you want to see how deep i get into detailing and scratch building http://s179.photobucket.com/albums/w294/aftashox/ enjoy
Guest Sickfish Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Hi guys! I know it's been a hellava long time since work stopped & got shelved on the 'Bees & I'm sorry about the abruptness of it all :-( Some of you know why & the rest of you don't but I had a very close mate almost die in a motorcycle accident in April this year. Fortunately he didn't, but has & will be facing alot of physiotherapy since then & in the future. I'm extremely happy his mental recovery has been awsome & he's back to 100% & he won't be suffering any permanent damage to his brain :-) As far as the 'Bees build goe's, I've been in/out of the hobbyroom over the last couple of weeks getting re-aquainted with everything... & trying to kickstart the ol' modelling juices ;-) It was stalled because of the Football ( Rugby League, down here ) season coming to an end & the excitement that my team, St.George Dragons, would make the Grand Final ( Like your Superbowl ) Well I'm as happy as a punch drunk sailor to report that they did make the Grand Final & they DID WIN it!! After 31 long seasons without a championship! It brought tears to my eyes & I'm absolutely rapt!!! Ok... As far as modelling goe's I've begun again... But not on the 'Bees. I needed to get back into it with something less detailed & with a couple of cars I absolutely had to buy/build... The Revell Audi R8 & the new Tamiya Aston Martin :-) i've already begun work on them but I don't think I'll post their build progress & just post finished pics in the Under Glass section when they're completed :-) As soon as they're done I'm going to get stuck back into the 'bees, hopefully within the next 2-4 wks :-) Thanks guys, for all your contributions, comments & most of all... Your patience :-) Cliffo
george 53 Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Cliffo, anything worth doing, is worth doing right! take your time, we aren't going anywhere! :)
Guest Sickfish Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Cheers & you're absolutely right George :-)
whale392 Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Glad to see you back and to know your mates health is returning. Having been in a similar situation, I can understand and am glad all is well. I do reference others to this build if they have 'Bee questions and still peruse it from time-to-time myself. Hope to see more soon, and again I am glad you are back!
Hattley Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Looking Great! Sickfish... I'll take a pair of shocks and, oh, let's say a hundred U-bolts? Same here!
