Yes, it's expensive, but if you were going to build one yourself, you'd have to work out all the parts, and the actual model sweep would be hard to make.

Anyway, it's just an option (or a good Holiday Gift list item). ;):P

I seen a tutorial somewhere that used just a simple sheet of foam board and the small flourecent light fixtures. It doesn't have the rounded corners, but it seemed to work really well.

Even better, go to your DIY store and pick up some white 1 1/2" PVC plumbing pipes and elbows. Construct a box out of it, use whatever color Bristol board you want to use for the back drop, or go to a fabric shop and buy a couple of different colors of cloth for a backdrop. Thinner white material for the sides, to diffuse your lights, and whatever color for the backdrop you want. White, Blue, Grey and Black are your usual colors.

Best part about the PVC pipe, is as long as you don't glue the pipe together, you can easily expand the booth to fit a bigger model

That's a great little tutorial, and yes, it's way cheaper. The trick is to form a good seamless sweep so that you don't see any lines . . .

Great find, folks!

I think it's a great idea to have a variety of options for those of us always striving for better photographs!

It doesn't matter how good a builder you are, if you don't take good photos your work could never really be appreciated fully.

I mean, you do in person, but you know what saying . . .

I made a pvc tube frame and just use a white sheet over it to diffuse the light. The sheet lets more light through than a piece of foam board and it can be doubled to diffuse the light more. Made a little vertical wood stand for the back that I can drape various color poster board sheets for seamless backgrounds. I use some 25 watt curly florescent lights.

Never saw that particular light tent, Cranky. Some interesting options there. And give us cheapo's another chance to show just how cheap we are in making our own!

I probably would not buy one for myself but would use it if I received one as a gift. ;)

Yeah, I have the exact same attitude about Lamborghinis...

Looks to me like a trip to your local Big Box Home Store and asking for an ABS Bathtub would net you 4 of the single corner units for a heck of a lot less. Heck for those of you in Clubs cut it in half and have a Club Studio! For lighting an Overcast Day or Evening work very well.
