Guest zebm1 Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Perhaps these should be in 1:1 reference photos, but I wanna play a game with them 1st. Name the year, make and model and then descibe tha customizations. Some hints; 30,000 original miles 3 owners and has lived in same town all it's life and this one too, year, make and model. have fun yall, give yall a few days, then I'll edit tha posting with tha details... enjoy
MrObsessive Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 That '57 Buick is a Century I believe...............looks like the rockers were customized, as well as the rear end. It also appears like dual sunken antennaes were put in below the "C" pillar on the drivers side. The other car is indeed an A.C. Bristol-----'50's era. I think it would've had a straight six in it............Long before Carroll Shelby got the idea to drop a small block V8 in one.
BIGTRUCK Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Packard tails , lake pipes . fender louvers gone as well as door handles, and is that the gas door in the bumper ?..cool..
MrObsessive Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 and is that the gas door in the bumper ?..cool.. Yeah, that was pretty much standard fare for '57 Buicks back in those days. Great idea.............at least you didn't have to worry about which side your gas door was on for the gas pump. '57 Chevys had the neatest idea of putting the gas door on the drivers side tail fin! Unfortunately, that wouldn't pass muster with today's safety regs though.
Jairus Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Could be a Century but I'm thinking '57 Buick Roadmaster with: Shaved hood and deck Rounded hood and trunk corners Molded lakes pipes Tunneled antenna Frenched 57 Chrysler taillights Frenched headlights Appleton spots How am I doing?
Guest zebm1 Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Close but no cigars yet, any opinion on tha wheels?
MrObsessive Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Hmmmmm.......................looking closer at the wheelbase of the car............It's a little short for any Buick for '57. Might just be the pic itself. Maybe a heavily redone '55 Chevy?? But '55 Chevy's didn't have windshield posts that raked yet. :? The beltline and rear of the car says mid '50's GM........I just can't put my finger on exactly which make. :? Wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be a Ford though! As far as the wheels.......they look like Borannis with low profile tires....
BIGTRUCK Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Well , now kinda resembles a '57 Pontiac some.........
Guest zebm1 Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 It is a Buick, but yall ain't got tha model correct, and tha headlights aren't frenched.
Jairus Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 It is a Buick Roadmaster… An up market "75" to be specific! Shaved hood and deck Rounded hood and trunk corners Molded lakes pipes Tunneled antenna Frenched 57 Chrysler taillights Appleton spots You’d better give up a little more here Henry… your going to lose your audience.
MrObsessive Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Well, if it's not a Riviera, Century, or Roadmaster............then it's a Special. I can't remember if Specials came in hardtop form though. :? That car is a weeeeeee bit before my time! And yes, '57 Buicks had frenched "eyebrow" headlight doors straight from the factory.
Guest zebm1 Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 You are correct Bill, it is a Series 40 Special, but tha headlight holders are not stock.
Guest zebm1 Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 on tha spurts cur, Bill and Izzy are most correct, it's a 1956 AC (Auto Carriers, name of tha company) ACE Roadster. This body first appeared in 1953 thru 1961 and then came Carroll Shelby. With an engine that was 1st designed right after WWI: in 1956 AC changed engine builders to Bristol. Bristol built 1971 cc, 2.2 litre 6 cyl. chain-driven SOHC inclined valves cross-flow porting aluminum block and crankcase wet cylinder sleeves 125 Hp @ 5750 rpm 123 ft. lbs. torque @ 4500 rpm top speed - 180 kph Front disc brakes Girling hydraulic shocks rack-n-pinion 4 spd manual 735 total production and 326 Acecas (Coupes)
