my 70 chevelle ss Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 I built a 68 Bruce Larson Camaro Funny car & I usally clear coat over the decals but this one I didn't. I was cleaning the dust off it today & tore the stripes on the front hood nice made my day. So I just ordered new decals from Slixx I'm going to put them over the old ones. This is my question I can take the body off the frame it's hinged & want to after I put the new stripes on clear coat them I use Tamiya CAN I CLEAR COAT OVER THE WINDSHIELD & BACK WINDOW? as these are glued in. Thank you! Will,
Steve Keck Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 "CAN I CLEAR COAT OVER THE WINDSHIELD & BACK WINDOW? as these are glued in." Will, I wouldn't. Better to mask off the clear parts. Best to protect the clear parts with Parafilm, then mask over the Parafilm to form a paint barrier.
Guest Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 What he said, you could also use foil as a mask, or tamiya masking tape, it's fairly thin, cuts easy, and comes off easy.
MikeMc Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Are the decals also on the roof?? If not wide brush and a coat of future can be done w/o masking....BUT if on the roof your outta luck w/o masking as the guys said
Peter Lombardo Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Those are all good solutions to your situation. But, I would just brush on a coat of Hobbico Master Mask, liquid masking film. Let it dry and after painting, just slip the tip of a #11 blade under a corner and it will pull right up. The stuff cleans up with water so it doesn't hurt anything....that is how I would do it. Also, if you do clearcoat over decals, be very careful when using lacquer paints...they can eat up decals like a bum eats up a ham sandwich.
