Nick Winter Posted May 5, 2010 Posted May 5, 2010 One other thing...it didn't help that Dodge insisted on calling the "L'il Red Express Truck" the "LRT" in print even though it had the word "Express" on the door in huge block letters... Very true, infact I have a real ad framed and it says both LRT and L'il Red Express Truck on the very top, at the bottom it only calls it L'il Red Truck.
Tom T Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 I couldn't find any information from Missing Links web site. Is it a Landau (Hidden headlights amoung other things)?? Used to have a `77 myself known at the time as "The Mothership". Really looking forward to seeing your review.
Guest Mustang3.8 Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 This kit is not on thier site, yet. It is not the Landau version. It does not have hidden headlights.
highway Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 But don't forget "Sierra" is correct for GMC trucks in the US, Fords in Europe, but "Ciera" is the one for Oldsmobiles of a certain age. Just like the "Cyclone/Syclone" thing. Least GMC batted .500 on normal spelling, right? Then you have Testors who thinks "Hugger Orange" is "Huggar Orange" and now has half the forum-dwellers going with them...and GM decided for about 10 years in the mid 80s-90s that the word "gauges" should be "gages" for reasons unknown. I hope you got that I was kidding on the Crager/Camero thing. Those are the two most-butchered internet forum words, and my 2 personal biggest pet-peeves: One of the things I see misspelled the most, at least in the truck section, is "Peterbilt"! Everybody seems to think it is spelled "Peterbuilt", there is NO "U" in Peterbilt!!!

Guest Mustang3.8 Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I think I might try and weather the chassis on this one. Any ideas, guys?
highway Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 (edited) I think I might try and weather the chassis on this one. Any ideas, guys? I think you said you were building it as a taxi, right? I would say, depending on if you are going with one that has been in service for a long time, rust scale on the frame rails and rear end, maybe an oil leak or two, and some grease stains where grease fittings would be. Oh, by the way, a lot of road grime. Edited May 7, 2010 by highway
Nick Winter Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Kevin, I sent your decals today, also if your wondering where to put stains, oil pans have a habit of leaking and oil filters too, fuel lines and maybe near the gas tank, but definetaley the rear end, If it were me I would rust the exuast, all the way through in some spots, and because this is a place that gets snow, like highway said rust the frame rails, also like any vehicle anywere it snows the suspension parts should have surfac rust all over them. I'll check a website I get my weathered car reference from and check back.
Roadkill2525 Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 I hope you got that I was kidding on the Crager/Camero thing. Those are the two most-butchered internet forum words, and my 2 personal biggest pet-peeves: If you can't spell "Camaro" on a Camaro forum you should be beaten and your Camaro taken from you, people will mispell it even though "Camaro" is at the top of the page in very large letters.

Nick, I forgot about the exhaust!! If you do make it look like the exhaust has holes all the way through in spots, don't forget the black stains aroubd the holes when the exhaust is leaking. Also, if you need some weathering ideas from a vehicle that has lived twenty years in the snow and rust belt, check out the pics of my 1990 Ford F350, here's a link to it: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=30068 I know it's no where near the car you're building, but the underside pics should give you some good ideas, not only for the weather related weathering, but something that has had oil leaks as well.
highway Posted May 7, 2010 Posted May 7, 2010 Found these. That looks like something the famous Russian taxi driver Picup Anddropov would drive!!
Guest Mustang3.8 Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 Sorry for the lack of updates. I think I'm gonna do the interior blue like in the pics that Nick posted. But not as torn up.
Guest Mustang3.8 Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 I got the body painted. I only applied two mist coats, but what a shine it's got.
RodneyBad Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 THat is a Bright Yellow. Paint job looks good. Hey Yo, Taxi! 5th and Main and step on it!
MyBradKeselowski Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Very nicely painted I remember these big boats like it was yesterday...
Guest Johnny Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Too shiney for a cab! Hit it with dullcoat then buff it a little, but unevenly!(some areas more tan others)
Blake Rogers Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 whoa thats yellow alright what paint you use kevin?
charlie8575 Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 That body casting looks good. I think Missing Link has another grand slam on its hands. I'll look forward to more pictures. Chaarlie Larkin
