So I am noticing there is some new lingo on here (new to me anyway) and I was wonder what certain things I have been reading mean

Curbside kit, Generally no engine kit, thus curbside

kit bash, Utilizing a plethora of kits to build one

community builds, Groups of people building similar or themed models

BMF, Bare Metal foil

I will add more as I see them let me know also it will help out any of the other new members  thanks for any help

Hope that helps.

Curbside means built with no opening doors or hood and no engine.

Kit-bash means using multiple kits and/or custom building pieces to build a single kit.

Community Builds is where you get a group of people together, either in person or on here, and build similar builds and having a deadline to have everything finished.

BMF is short for Bare Metal Foil. Its used for the chrome trim on the cars.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.

It really took me 15 minutes to type that post?

 You're off your game Clay. You could've used that 15 mins to build.

thanks alot guys

also another is flash ??

Flash is that "extra" bit of plastic that sometimes appears along the edges of some parts. It's caused when the two halves of the mold don't close completely tight, and some of the molten plastic oozes into the joint between the mold surfaces.

Flash.... most likely found on an older tool kit, where the two (or more) halves of the tooling don't fit tight, and excess styrene flows in the gaps. To you, it is evident when you open the box, and find excess plastic in places like window openings, etc. Just trim it out with your hobby knife.

Usually the kits with the worst flash problems tend to be older kits where the tooling (the actual steel molds) is fairly worn from use and don't close completely "tight" anymore, allowing the hot plastic to squeeze in between the mating surfaces (where it's NOT supposed to go!)

Most newly-tooled kits have very little, if any, flash... some Japanese kits are known to rarely if EVER have any. But really, it's more of an annoyance than a real problem... it's fairly easy to remove, and just sort of "comes with the territory" in most kits to one extent or another.

I don't find flash to be to much of a pain just some filing and a rub with some sand paper makes it go away fairly easy and as for the answer needing a question I see what ya did there clever
