I have some Revell 56 Delrays and now some 57 150s around. I'd like to turn one of them into a 4 door, and decorate it as a Navy car from that era. Does anybody have any pictures of such items; color would be best, but B/W would also be helpful. TIA

Not much need for color pics, as US Navy staff cars back then were USN gloss Gull Grey, which is in the Model Master enamel military paint rack. The interiors would probably have been charcoal grey, non-standard for the 160 in '56, and black and light grey for the '57 interiors. All other colors under the hood, and on the chassis would be the same as for any Chevy of those two years.

All US Navy lettering (on the front doors only) was black.

If you need to know what parts of the interior were what colors, feel free to ask me, I will dig out that information.

Google... it's a wonderful thing. I found this pic on the first page of a Google Image search. I hope the pic works... I am not saving to post this time.

My search was probably too limited. I searched for 56/57 Chevies from the Navy.

I actually happen to have some Gull gray sitting around from when I did a ship model for my son. What's funny is that he asked around and was told that they were "battle ship gray"; like that's helpful.

Thanks to both of you for your help and time.

What engine and transmission would have been used?

Actually, I believe that Testors has a spray called "Battleship Grey". I don't know if that is the one for you, or Gloss Gull Grey. With so little color reference material available, you may have to use that 40's era car photo above as a color chip.

I also noticed in my original Google search that some cars appeared in either dark blue, or black. Still others were olive drab... maybe they were not Navy specific photos? Not every photo on the net is accurate (I think I just made an understatement!)

I remember seeing an authentic 1957 Plymouth about fifteen years ago at the Worcester Summer Nationals.

"Authentic" as in it was a real U.S. Navy staff car with 34,000 original miles on it.

I don't know how they did the Chevies, but I can tell you this was a Plaza two-door sedan in Dark blue with a gray interior. It was a V-8/PowerFlite (two-speed automatic,) and had a heater-defroster and AM radio.

I believe it had power steering also.

I'd go with a dark blue with the stock 150 interior.
