Noone really knows,we've all heard the stories passed down by glue and paint infumed predacessors, but the one that ring the most truth to me is...

It was an international conglomerate that came together and formed this forum

After many hostile takeovers, subpoenas to the state ethics committees, and massive amount of american dollars brought up through South America the conglomerate won and were the new owners of this here forum.

I introduce.. Russian Vodka (muscle),Korean Hooker(brains) and the Crazy Hawaiin (the widcard and also the face of the conglomerate )

It was not vodka but Wiskey. JD to be exact and we were sipping it when Gregg asked me what do you think about a model car forum? I think he was laying down on his back in my studio at the time.

He set it up after returning to Hawaii with some cheap software and sent me a link. And.... yeah it was pretty quiet here with just the two of us badgering back and forth. Till we invited others....

... then it went down hill from there. B)

I was waiting for Jairus to chime in.

Actually, it was on the board to do for so long.

I just couldn't find the software that I thought would work the best.

Yes, at that time, we used cheap (meaning free).

After we got tired of chatting with ourselves, others joined us.

I remember when we got so excited when we hit 100, then 500, then a thousand members.

I don't remember when I changed to the paid version of the forum software, but that was a lot of sweaty moments during the conversion.

Luckily, everything switched over fine.

So, to answer the question, it was started to be a place for modelers to get together online and share their tips, tricks, builds, and make new friends.

Unfortunately, with all the bickering, fighting, and schoolyard rumbles, it has lost its meaning, and value.

With over 6,000 registered members, it's one of the most visited online forums on the Internet.

We have builders from all over the world showing off their builds and tips.

We have launched the "careers" of many well-known builders over the past couple of years.

Many builders and readers have had their life-long dream of making it on the cover of Model Cars, due to the forum and being selected to join the ohana of MCM.

You can't put a price tag on that, and when I go to shows and meet my cover builders, the gratitude and thanks they give me makes all of this worth it.

I get teary-eyed sometimes, and a moment at the NNL East a few years ago always makes me feel so good inside. The builder of a great 956 was so thankful, and his wife was so proud of him, it was one of those "Kodak moments" I will cherish forever.

This forum has given me hundreds if not thousands of friends, from all over the world.

It's a place to meet new friends, chat with old ones, and see what others have been building.

It started with two good friends talking and getting liquidated, discussing what the forum structure should be like, and it's grown from there.

Okay, I pau (finished)

Even though it's a little past Father's Day, Happy Father's Day to both Gregg and Jairus for the wonderful child they raised, this forum! I'm proud to be a member of the ohana!

Incidentidentally.... all those original first posts are still here somewhere! :P

Also it is interesting to go to "Member List" and see that for a few days we only had 5 people here Tim, Robert, Gregg, Larry and me. February 16 2006!

After three days of testing we posted notices on as many forums as we could: Slotblog, Spotlight etc, etc.

If you check the Member list and sort that list by join-by-date you can see who joined during those first few days. A number of them I recognize from Slotblog but few have ever come back :(

Treasure hunt to anyone reading: Find the oldest post on MCM forums! I bet it is Gregg saying something silly....

What?

Are you thinking "Brokeback forum"? Naw... not like that.

More like "Gregg spoke" and it was DONE kind of thing.

But Greg, your story has the intrigue of a good novel. Now add a few introverts, a blond running from the law, a road trip to Chicago and a crazy Puerto Rican and you might have something!

No, he meant I have a broke back

You guys are implying things that are not true, and you know what happens when that occurs :P

Just playing.

Don't want to stir up troubles, again.

J, I don't remember the blond.

I thought she was dark-haired, and something about a train....

Man, the stories we could tell

I still love the one I tell about getting lost in LA, the U-Turn, the whites of the eyes under the hooded sweatshirt, hands in the pockets.....
