mackinac359 Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Here's number 5 for '07. Started in January of '06 as part of a Trucker's Corner column in ModelCars talking about Tamiya masking tape. There is absolutely NO bleed under with this tape. I used Duplicolor paint. Too bad my stripes aren't straight. hmmmph. This is a '73 Peterbilt 352 Pacemaker based on the brochure truck. Colors are Duplicolor dark brown metallic and wimbelton white. The springs are Krylon Orange, the axles are Krylon Old Equipment yellow. The accent stripe is from Microscale. I kitbashed the Cummins engine and air conditioner from a reissue Pete 359. The mufflers are from an old AMT T500 359 kit. The standpipes are polished aluminum. I used Bare Metal Foil "chrome" on the sleeper vents, battery box, fuel tanks, marker light surround, mudflap hangers, exhaust elbows (from a KW K123 kit) and the sun visor. More pics are up on my site at www.timstrucks.com then click on recent builds. Thanks for looking! Tim
Jim B Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Beautiful as always. Fantastic work, and the lines look straight to me! When you usa the Bare Metal Foil "chrome", do you use the "chrome" or the "bright chrome"? Have you ever used the flat aluminum?
JdKustomModels Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Dont get down about it Tim, I dont see any problems with the stripes. Another beautiful build...just got done watchin the Denton Plant tour!!! I love DVR ill watch it again tomorrow
mackinac359 Posted January 29, 2007 Author Posted January 29, 2007 Jim I use the BMF Chrome not the Bright or Ultra? chrome. The good old Chrome (original) works best for me. The other seems to tear easily. Tim
mackinac359 Posted January 29, 2007 Author Posted January 29, 2007 Josh The National Geographic Channel program was entertaining. I could have used less non-factory stuff. The Walcott Iowa80 truckstop parts could have been used to make a show just on Iowa80. I did find it interesting that the program spoke only of the 387 yet always showed 379s at shows. Tim
JdKustomModels Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Lol I noticed that too. They should have thought about that when they did the editing. Id like to see a show on Iowa 80, as many times as Ive been there I know I didnt see everything. On the BMF, the utrla bright......I hate it, it does tear easily and doesn't adhere very well either
Jim B Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Well, that's two negatives on the BMF Ultra Bright. Guess I'll shick with the "chrome". What about the flat aluminum?
mackinac359 Posted January 29, 2007 Author Posted January 29, 2007 I haven't tried the flat aluminum BMF. Tim
phoneguy Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 looks great Tim, now you need to do the Kenworth bicentennials editions. Jerry
Old Albion Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Tim, I like this truck. It is both pleasing to the eye and has important historical significance. Some how in Some way our little hobby has a responsibility to contribute to the record of the present and the past to help educate the generations to come. These were the machines that helped to shape the world that we lived in. Well Done Great Build! Dave Bates
455 Rocket Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Tim, another awesome model. It reminds me of the trucks I saw growing up. It also was the first truck model I built. You're killing me thought #5!! I'm still trying to get my first for 2007 done.
bsoder Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 Looks to me like it's ready to hook up and hit the road!!..another outstanding build Tim! ...B
Michael W. Magiera Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 Great build, Tim. I always liked the 1970s paint jobs with the wide stripes. I used to see a lot of trucks with the wide stripes when I was a little kid.
Twist67 Posted February 2, 2007 Posted February 2, 2007 Hi Tim, that 352 is really a beauty....I live those cabover petes...... Nice paint and detailwork. Cheers,Chris
SpreadAxle Posted February 3, 2007 Posted February 3, 2007 Another fine example of my favorite cabover. stripes look straight to me. And I agree with you on the show, should've stuck to the factory, and built a 379, but that's just me.
