tuffone20 Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 (edited) I'm building the Revell '69 Camaro and was going to build it stock and then changed my mind and wanted to do something a little different with it so I did a two tone paint on it using HOK Tangelo Pearl & Tamiya Black. And now I'm stuck on how I want to paint the chassis and inter fender wells, firewall & radiator support? I was thinking of it all being painted Tangelo Pearl with the frame rails being black? I sanded the back side of the grill down to open it up. And I'm going to be using these wheels Please give me some some feedback, I've been sitting here looking at it for the last hour and I'm just not sure what will look the best, oh and I'm also thinking of painting the eng. block Tangelo as well????? Scalper Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 Nice job on the grill. was it hard to sand. I may do that to mine. I am working on the same kit you can click on my wip at the bottom. nice paint job. both colors look great together.

Color reminds me of one a friend had back in Pontiac, MI. The grill took me about 45 mins to an hour and I'm still cleaning up some spots on it and should get some paint on it later today. This photo will show you just how much I had to sand it down to. Thanks Edited July 9, 2010 by tuffone20

tuffone20 Posted July 9, 2010 Author Posted July 9, 2010 Thanks for the compliment. did you use a sanding stick? or what grit? Tks Andre Yes I used a sanding stick and I'm not sure what the grit is on it but it's a real coarse one and then I used an X-Acto blade to open the slots once I got it to where you could see trough it and I also used a flat file too.
vizio93 Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 Wow I like that paint job, might do something like that on a project I got coming up ! Are you going to put a stripe to separate the two colors (If so I would put a silver one to match your wheels ) ???
MoparWoman Jamie Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 Dude, I love your color combo man. That is going to be one sweet model when finish.
Tony T Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 (edited) I really like your paint job! Looks great on the Camaro! The Revell 69 Camaro grilles are great for opening them up. I did that on my Baldwin Motion grille, and the one I used to replace a 60 Impala grille. I used the Dremel with a sanding drum to get most of the plastic down, going slowly, and checking progress. Then switched to a course flat file, then a finer file, before finishing with some 600 grit paper. Didn't have much clean up after that. You have to be careful, as there isn't much support left, and it could be broken if you aren't careful. So...with regard to your request for suggestions. If you are going to use black and tangello underhood, I'd go with the tangello on the engine, and black on the surrounding areas (firewall, fenders, rad support). That will allow the engine to stand out. You could do the chassis floor in tangello to match the lower body, then the front sub frame could be black, or tangello. Have fun deciding!! jedimastergary Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 must have been hard work tired to do mine today and almost broke it in two. Was yours real thin and flexible when you finished it?
tuffone20 Posted July 10, 2010 Author Posted July 10, 2010 must have been hard work tired to do mine today and almost broke it in two. Was yours real thin and flexible when you finished it? Yes it is pretty flexible by the time I was done with it and you just have to take your time with it.
tuffone20 Posted July 10, 2010 Author Posted July 10, 2010 Tony T, thanks for your suggestion and I'm going to try and do it that way. And thanks everyone for the compliments on the paint job.
Romell R Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 (edited) Great job so far I love the colors I think that because this is a custom job that you can pretty much do whatever you feel, I think the Idea of the frame being tangelo and the motor would set your build off. And ofcourse do everything eles black. Just my opinion the way I see it just have fun with it and let it build itself. Romell Edited July 10, 2010 by Aftashox

Please give me some some feedback, I've been sitting here looking at it for the last hour and I'm just not sure what will look the best, oh and I'm also thinking of painting the eng. block Tangelo as well????? First off, nice color choices, they go together like ham and eggs! Now for my suggestions for your questions. This is honestly how I would paint the rest of it if you handed me what is already done. Since you have the black on the top of the car, I would carry that straight into the engine bay. I would paint the firewall, inner fenders, and radiator support the same Tamiya black as the body. Then do just as your thinking and paint the chassis Tangelo with the entire front subframe black, I usually use semi gloss on my frames, but since this is a resto rod style, gloss black would be fine, too. I would also paint the rear frame rails the same black as the front subframe. I also think, even though I usually always paint engines manufacture color, this one I would dare to be different. The Tangelo would look great on the engine, and since everything surrounding it would be black, it would carry the nice two tone of the body under the hood as well.
ARTEMIS1759 Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Nice color scheme and build. Which wheels are those?
Danno Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Nice, Martay! Don't paint any of the rest of it. Just bring it for the project table.
mannyclub Posted July 10, 2010 Posted July 10, 2010 Nice color combo looks awesome! The wheels look good on it also. Manny
MikeMc Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 Love Tangelo..and a Tu Tone....over the top.....I had a close idea to yours....here

Romell Thanks Romell, and I am having a lot of fun with this one and the only problem I keep seeming to have is I keep getting side tracked and am not spending as much time working on it as I'd like to. tuffone20 Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 I got a little more done, not as much as I would have liked and I'm hopping I can spend a lot more time working on it tonight. But here is what I've done so far. I got the front part of the chassis painted black and it came out pretty good I think. There are a few spots that need to be touched up but other that I like it. This is the 1st time I have used silly putty to mask stuff off. Now I just need to get the rear done up. I also used the same colors on the interior and am liking how that looks too. Well that's it for now guys as I'm going to try and get some more done before I have something else come up.......... Like having to get a new battery for the Dakota today!!!!!!! AZ heat kills them pretty fast here as that one wasn't more then 2 years old!!!
jedimastergary Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Looking good nice detail and i can see all the hard work you are putting into this build I am watching it as I build my 69 Camaro to see what cool things you do that might make mine look better. keep up the good work and posrt more when you can
